top chef just desserts - anyone watching?

I watched, but only because I miss top chef. I'm not too intrigued by pastry, though I do recognize the incredible skill and talent it requires. Who is that guy judge- Gail's counterpart- he is mean! johnny iuzzini is a superstar pastry chef. he's a james beard winner and has run pastry kitchens in some of the most prestigious kitchens in the US... including getting 3 michellin stars in NYC!

and he's hot too!

I started watching last season but only got through 2 episodes, so now I'm catching up on those while I wait for another from this season

ETA: just finished season 1.. soooooo dramatic!

is there anyway 3 competitors can make a cohesive cake in such a short period of time??? it was weird challenge.

yeah it was weird. But it seemed like some of them didn't even talk to each other at all. That one team had two layers of devil's food. Who thought that would be a good idea? And that cake with the red drum.. they each just made what they wanted and it didn't seem to fit any sort of theme or go together at all. I hope the next challenge is better!

this group seems really distrustful and suspicious of each other! even if it is a high stakes competition, the more you (carefully) cooperate, the better you will all do.

wow, could craig suck or be any more annoying.... oh yeah forgot about the crazy guy last season. he was WAYYYYY more annoying.

I thought last season was cattier, but either way, both are WAY cattier than regular Top Chef!

Yeah crazy guy last season was awful. Something about Craig makes me want to poke out my ear drums. He sounds like a cartoon character. I thought he should have bowed out after they told him, in no uncertain terms, that he would be going home if it weren't for the immunity. I didn't really care for Nelson, so in the end I didn't really mind the results, but if someone I liked better had gone home I would have been bummed.

Someone said that the pink velvet cake was more like a black forest cake because red velvet doesn't have chocolate... I have always used cocoa powder in my red velvet cakes.. does that not count as chocolate?

If I had to hear Craig say "Mask-er-pone" one more time I was gonna go nuts.

top chef with gay men was a brilliant idea. i love it. morgan from last year was a scream. a straight macho man who's been working with gay men too long... he was a great big diva!!!  i was glad yigit won, just 'cause i didn't want morgan to gloat.

I thought the guy who won last season was insufferably smut and entitled. 

I don't mind Craig.  He's goofy but it really seems like that's just who he is.  The fact that other people take up for him makes me think he's a nice, if socially awkward, guy.  I probably wouldn't be his best friend or anything, but he seems like a good kid.  He did say that he picked a drink because they felt they needed one and it would free him up to help other people on his team, which he did.  He had immunity and chose to make himself a team leader - and usually the team leader of the losing team goes so he was taking a hit there, and he chose something simple to help out other people.  If he hadn't had immunity, I seriously doubt he would have had the same plan.  He was being a team player.  I actually thought their table looked so much  more interesting than the other table with that straw giraffe situation. That was ugly and random.  Every single thing looked so good, even the things that melted.

Also, I've read that "crazy guy from last season" was told not to take his meds during taping and THAT'S how he ended up crying and going over the edge.  That's a shame.  I realize they want more drama, but if that rumor is actually true then that...just seems unethical as hell. 

Now I really really want to go out and eat a thousand teeny desserts.  I hate that dessert gum, it's all gross, but all the wee tiny desserts were adorable and then seeing the other things all pink and plated...yes, today is a good day to find a tasting menu.

I despised Morgan. I thought he was so irritating. and I have serious doubts about the straight macho aspect, too.. he was WAY too into the shoe challenge

(I assume you mean smug, not smut) I didn't find Yigit smug at all, I thought he was humble and charming! Funny how people can watch the same bits of editing and come away with totally different opinions! I was really glad he won. If it had been Morgan my eyes might have never managed to unroll themselves.

That is true, and I do admire that about him. It is refreshing- especially after that tirade Orlando went off on in the stew room at the very end.. yuck. I understand it is a competition, and the stakes are high.. but I get SO sick of the "its all about me and f you all" attitude.

I almost liked the bamboo and rose chandelier, but there was something I didn't love about it. Was it not supposed to be edible? I loved the blown sugar piece but I was really disappointed when I saw them putting flowers all over it. I almost loved their table, but it was just too cluttery.

i should clarify, i thought craig sucked because he tried to make that elimination about himself, "how to you think i feel??!!" he whined. this i found amazingly annoying. someone else was going home, shut the &*^% up. kwim?

I thought Sally was going to go because it seemed like they liked at least PART of Melissa's presentation. I'm glad it wasn't the girl who was helping everyone else. The look on the chocolate fountain guy's face was priceless when he found out he wasn't in the top 3!
