Reincarnation In Islam

I am curious if there are any Muslim's that would like to share their views on reincarnation.

My cousin who is Muslim said they don't believe in it, but I was curious to hear thoughts on this:

Granted I do not know much about Islam but everything I know about their beliefs on life and death would contrary to reincarnation.

This is a great question though and I am mostly chiming in to book mark this and hear other peoples answers :-)

That particular article is mining English translations for meanings not implied in the original -- the first verse referenced, for example, is not talking about being brought to life after having lived before, but instead is quite plainly referencing just the most basic creation narrative: life from non-life. There is no "back from a prior state of life" about it, so to be honest I only skimmed from there on after because once you assert that the Qur'an absolutely demands belief in something based on a sort of shady translation ... well.  That's not really going to go over well with anyone.

It's possible reincarnation has worked its way into certain sects and offshoots, particularly where there is more cultural overlap with other belief systems which adhere to the idea, but it's not something inherent in Islam itself.

As to the best of my knowledge, when the Quran refers to being dead and brought back to life it is usually referring to being raised after death on the day of resurrection, when we will be physically brought back to life to enter the afterlife. It is not the same as entering back into this Earth several times over.
