Field trip ideas needed for Nebraska

I've been offered a midwifery apprenticeship in Oregon, so it looks like our family is going to be making the drive from upstate New York to Lebanon, Oregon this fall.

We'll be driving along I-80W for a large portion of the trip and I am looking for field trip suggestions for stops along the way.

Our children will be 11, 8, 6, and 4 when we make the trip. We've always homeschooled and I'm thinking we'll treat this like the biggest homeschool field trip we've ever had.

What can you suggest that's close to the highway that we shouldn't miss?

OK... I don't know much of the Omaha, Lincoln stuff... Omaha has a giant zoo that takes 3 days to see everything but well worth it.

But in the Middle of Nebraska you have the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island (On the 80) http://www.stuhrmuseum.org/.

45 mins west of that is the Kearney Archway Museum. Archway.org They also have a childrens museum that is at the northern tip of town: Kearneykidzone.com

15 miles west of that and 15 miles south of the 80 there is the Prarie Museum. It is much smaller but it has parts of the POW camp that was here.

My kids are similar in ages 10, 7, 5, 3 and we love the first 4. My husband took the older 2 to the 5th one(Prarie museum) I have not been. That is what is in my neck of the woods.

I would do the zoo most definitely! The IMAX has a movie on caves right now, tornados, and born to be wild (animals). There's the Durham Western Heritage Museum. My oldest loves it there. It's history based, history of NE and the US expanding west. I think it would be a great home school trip! There's the wildlife safari too and the SAC museum.
