DS confusing cues?

Thread Starter

DS (my 1st baby) is currently 3 weeks old and we've been ECing for a little over a week now.  We have several pee catches and almost all poop catches a day which I'm very excited about.

MY QUESTION:  The last two days when I give him the psss cue to pee he ends up pooping almost every time.  Should I switch to a "single" cue for both or should I still stick with the two separate cues.  I'm currently using psss for pee and saying "poop" for poop.

I've done some reading and am still very new to EC so any input would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

i only do "sssss...", though I also tend to say "do you need to pee?" DD is 4 months now but we've been ecing since she was 2 weeks. For the longer time she only pooped every 5/6 days...so I was mostly dealing with pee anyway. If, while on the toilette or potty she shows signs that she is trying to poop (most often after a pee) I say "anything else?" But this is more sort of "encouragement" then cueing, since she already seems to know this is the place.  And....that all just came naturally. I feel that by saying "sssss" I'm inviting her to "go" and even though it sounds like pee she doesn't seem to need different cues. Anyway, that's just what we do!  Sounds like your little guy already thinks that "pssss" is an invitation to pee or poo so maybe you can just stick with that.
