Glandular Hypospadia and Unilateral Hydronephrosis : Sceduled VCUG at Children's Hospital

Does anyone have any advice regarding this procedure for my five-month-old baby boy. One Monday, he needs to have a catheter stuck up his hypospadia (where he pees currently). 

I noticed the extra pee hole (possible hypospadia) recently and called the doc who said to do ultrasounds of bladder and kidneys. Then, there is no dialation of the ureter only the right kidney. He is still wetting diapers and acts like the happiest baby in the world. He never had a fever or symptoms of these conditions. I know it is serious because they rushed the appointment for three days later at a pediatric hospital. I am worried about the long term effects of this. Will it get better by itself? With antibiotics or is surgery the only option for the hydronephrosis. The hypospadia is mild and is cosmetic if he was born with it but how do the doctors know if he was born with it or if he acquired it from a bacteria or UTI/stricture of his normal meatus? Will they damage his inside by sticking a catheter up to check where the urine blockage is? It sounds like it may be a Ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Anyone have this issue? Any information about it? I know it is fairly common (1 out of 200 births).
