Red spots on DD and runny nose *pic*

DD is 6 1/2 months. Yesterday her nose started running and still is today, though she seems perfectly fine otherwise. We were in the bath earlier today when I noticed some red spots. They are just barely raised, I can only tell by slowly running my finger over them. I *might* have seen them yesterday and didn't think anything of it, but I'm not sure. Either way, they haven't been around more than a couple days max.

I know it very likely could be nothing and neither are connected. But I figured I would go ahead and throw it out there just in case. Neither she nor DS are vax'd (DS has had a slightly hoarse voice for a few days, but no spots that I've seen or anything else, so no concerns with him).

Here's the pic...

They're more red than in the pic (sorry, should've gone outside for better lighting). She's got those three plus another one on her thigh near her hip.

And, btw, I'm not actually concerned since she's acting completely normal, I'm just curious.

Looks like the impetigo we are dealing with right now.  The spots might start looking like a little tiny boil (like a tiny volcano with clear fluid in the center) or get red or a tad crusty.  They key is that they start looking like cigarette burns after the first 2-3 days or so.  Individual sores can heal without treatment, but by then you'll have 10 or 20 more!

Impetigo is a staph infection and very contagious.  The spots are treated individually with an anti-bacterial ointment.  They are kinda painful (I have one right now on my upper arm--ouch!) so they should be treated somehow.  Extensive cases like my girls' will be treated with oral antibiotics as well.  Untreated, the sores can cause scarring.  Impetigo is better known to show up on the face, but after treating about 40 spots each all over their bodies twice a day for 3 weeks (down to just a handful each now, thanks to the oral medicine) I'm getting to know this one well.

Get this one ID'd by your provider.  Ask around for a more natural treatment, if you want that instead and it turns out to be impetigo for sure.  People have been treating this for centuries before antibiotic ointments.
