Snacks for the Kiddos?

I am trying to think of some new ideas for homemade and healthy snacks for my kids.

I am looking for stuff that can be made ahead and then pulled out and taken on the go.

I've made fruit leather, granola balls, peanut butter balls, which are all pretty good, but I wish I was more creative!!

Thanks for any ideas!

I just did a batch of corn bread (with onion, capsicum and zucchini) and a date loaf. Both of them freeze well and can be microwaved or taken with you frozen to thaw until you're ready to eat.

sweet potato black bean burritos

quesadillas

meatloaf in muffin tins

muffins

salad wrapped in rice papers (my kids love these, and I'll just do a drizzle of peanut sauce inside as I wrap them

Some of my personal favorites that are tasty, portable and kid friendly -

pumpkin muffins

apple hand pies

home made beef/venison jerky (if you have a dehydrator)

chewy oatmeal cookies

And I agree with Katelove - corn bread with peppers is great. We do ours with jalapenos and sometimes bake them as muffins for portability.

I love baking cornbread with cranberries and corn.

It's a delicious snack that taste almost as good as cake while being reasonably nutritious.

My daughter really needs protein to be even tempered.  Boiled eggs are good for on the go - simple and they have their own package plus I don't worry about them spoiling quite as quickly as meat would.

You could try cutting up a bunch of fruit and putting it in a big bowl in the refrigerator.

You could make a shelf just for the kids in the refrigerator and but celery sticks, cheese sticks ECT. on it

YOu could make a place in the kitchen for HEALTHY snacks only that they can eat between meals. You could put granola bars, celery sticks, carrots, fruits and maybe some healthy dip! ECT. those are my snack ideas!

Hummus is a huge hit with my three-year-old and is fine at room temp for a few hours while you're on the go. Put a drained can of chickpeas, 1/4 C tahini, the juice of one lemon and a clove of garlic in the food processor and let it run - adding enough warm water to make a paste - until the mixture is perfectly smooth. Taste for salt and more lemon juice. It's a great dip for veggies, pita or crackers.
