We moved about a month ago to a larger house. Our old house, we used every room, every day. Our new house, there are rooms that currently are not really being used, they are box storage. Our eighteen month old lab mix has taken to using the rooms we don't use for elimination. Driving both DH and I insane. She has stopped 'telling' us when she needs to go, and will just jaunt into one of those to relieve herself. We have had to start crating her at night again to prevent it, but it still sometimes happens during the day. She will not eliminate in her crate unless we are bad pet parents and get hung up at work and can't let her out in a reasonable amount of time. When we are home, we take her out every hour or two, but she still is having trouble. Tips? Pointers? The floor plan doesn't really allow for shutting her out of areas.Â

can you shut the doors to the rooms used for storage?
Â
I would go back to basics, its a new place and new stress for her. Take her out every hour when you are home, take her out after every meal and every nap. If she doesnt go, crate her and try again in 15 minutes. When she goes outside praise and treat her like crazy, throw a party! When you are in the house, try and limit her access, use boxes in doorways if you need too (its a pain but it works), or leash her to you. If you cant watch her or leash her (doing dishes is hard when house training lol) crate her. how does she alert you to needing to go? I would get a bell to put on the door handle to outside and teach her to ring it when she needs to go.
