Could you please discuss poop?

My son will be 2 in Oct. and has always had poop that resembles grainy peanut butter.  I can count on one hand how many times I've plopped a poop since he was about 9 months old!  His doctor said it was toddler diarrhea but I'm beginning to not buy that diagnosis because no matter how much apple sauce or how many bananas he eats, his poop just won't firm up.

He's mostly dairy free.  We've never given him cow's milk and limit his cheese intake to a special treat.  Yogurt is either soy or coconut.  He had dairy issues since birth, but I've noticed now that when he does have some dairy he isn't worse.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm asking.  I guess I'm looking for similar stories or suggestions as to what could cause this.

Our 17 m.o. almost never has a solid poop.  His iron is low (10.4) and the ped recommended a supplement.  We tried for several months to bring his iron up with dietary measures and cooking in cast iron, to no avail.  The supplement we are using (Floradix) has made his poops much, much firmer...and much easier to clean, also.  He still nurses a lot, BTW.  Don't know if this is helpful, but I thought I would pass it along.  So to speak.

Our boy does eat dairy, but only in the forms of unflavored yogurt, cottage cheese, and regular cheese (no cow milk).  I have never noticed that his poops are firmer when he eats typically-constipating foods, such as dried fruit or bananas.

I don't want to be totally ridiculous here but do you see the poop before it gets smooshed up in the diaper? DD poops and if she remains standing it is one solid stool in her kinda baggy diaper but if she sits or leans up against something before I get to her it looks just like grainy peanut butter smeared all over.

Just a thought. :)

I was wondering the same thing. Is he potty-trained? How do you know he isn't pooping more firmly?
