Hello all,

My daughter is about 16 months old and has a very small cavity on her top front right tooth and some discoloration on the top front left tooth. The cavity and discoloration are on the front of her teeth (so not a flossing issue). She has always nursed about 2-3 times at night and still does. We took her to the dentist the other day and they immediately told me I need to night wean her. She's a very attached baby and this would be very traumatic for her (I work full time, so she sleeps with my husband and I and nighttime is the time she really gets to reconnect with me). A few months ago there was a while where we were letting her have some organic cookies to munch on during car trips and I'm thinking maybe this was the culprit since cookies can turn to mush in saliva and just sit along the gumline. I've come across several sources that say the lactoferrin in breastmilk actually helps to prevent decay by killing the bacteria that causes them. So, does anyone have a similar situation? I want to find a dentist that is supportive of our breastfeeding relationship and will also be able to treat her cavities as gently as possible. I live in Greenville, SC. If any of you know of a pediatric dentist that would be a good fit, please let me know. Any other thoughts/stories would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
