"Big sibling gift"?

DH's coworkers made a suggestion about giving DD a gift "from the baby" when the baby is born.  I thought this was a really cute idea, so.. just wondering if anyone else is doing or has done it and maybe some ideas. BTW, DD turned 3y/o in June

Before baby #3, we threw the older two (four years old and almost-three) a big brother party, and made a really big deal about it.

My son gave my daughter (just shy of 4) a doll made by a woman on etsy....so she can stay busy with her baby while I was busy with our baby. This time the baby is giving my daughter (just shy of 6) jewelry and my son (on his second birthday) a doll from the same etsy seller.

Daughter *still* refers to the doll as "the one F gave me."

I want to get both girls a new baby doll so they can mother right alongside with me when I take care of their little brother. They are both really into dolls and babies at the moment, so I think that will go over well.

I got DD a little doctor kit - she has been so interested in what happens at the dr's when I go for my checkups.  I'm also going to sew her a doll sling so she can carry her baby like I will carry her sister!

I think the doll sling is a really cute idea! I don't remember what my sister did for the older siblings, but the older siblings gave the baby a doll they all helped make at Build a Bear.

I hope it's not against the rules to post a link to my etsy shop - if it is, mods can delete it - but I often give big siblings a play diaper bag with diapers, wipes, a bib so that they can take care of their own baby - they always seem to go over really well with the moms and kids, and my own DD LOVES playing with hers - I'll have to figure out something else to give her when my next baby comes in Feb.  Maybe I'll make her a few more diapers and doll outfits and other things to go in her bag.

ETA - just read that advertising is not permitted, so I deleted the links - sorry!!!

I've been thinking of ways to make the baby's birth be kind of a "birthday party" for the kids. There will definitely be a present or 2 for each kid "from the baby" but no particular theme other than "ooh, this looks like something they'd go crazy for!" I'm not sure when exactly the presents will come out. I figure when the time comes, it'll be obvious. Either during labor when they need a distraction, or sometime after the birth when we need them occupied with something new and exciting.

I like the toy diaper bag idea. When we got some AIO's in the mail, DD was really excited to try them on her dolly. I bet she'd like something like that.

This is such an awesome idea - when I'm sewing DD's doll sling I am TOTALLY sewing up a little diaper bag and contents to go with.  Thank you for the inspiration!!
