Sun-Mar and flies?!

Does anyone else have a sunmar composting toilet? Is it infested with flies during the warm seasons? What model do you have, and does it have a fan? We have a 12v fan on ours and thought thatd help but no. We have sprinkled boric acid and that's helped, but we wonder how the boric acid will affect our compost.piles. We have emailed sunmar but they haven't responded. Now we're wondering if its a common problem with no.solution since they didn't get back to us. We will be adding on to our house and we are wondering about incinerating toilets if we add a second bathroom. We have a pretty big pv system so we would probably be ok in that regard. Anyone have experience with those kind? I would be grateful to hear others experiences.

We don't have one but we sell them. I did have one customer come in with that problem. Are you using the SunMar Compost Sure with it? It seems the people who have tried other bulking agents have had issues. Keep trying to reach SunMar - they are usually really good about helping troubleshoot.....

Thanks talia rose. We remembered that dh never got around to putting the a screen on the vent stack. I wanted him to, he thought flies couldn't get past the fan. Ha! He and ds were on the roof installing roofing on the addition and saw flies around the vent stack. They went over and looked and sure enough they were all zooming down in...faster than we could assist their transmigration inside. : ) All fixed now. And we use pine sawdust from a local wood worker for our soak. No problems, no flies. Such a relief!

oh i'm so glad you figured it out. also good to hear the feedback on the sawdust......
