Older sibling intuiting pregnancy?

Or is there something hormonal in the air that he's picking up on, lol?

My youngest is 4 and is insisting that he is going to get a baby sister.  I haven't told him I'm pregnant, he's never been aware of me being pregnant (I've had miscarriages, but he only knew about them after the fact).  Even my older guys haven't clued into the fact that my puking=pregnancy.

So my 4 yo is constantly talking about babies, and has been coming up to hug my stomach and lay his head on it.  bigeyes.gif

I have an u/s tomorrow, and hope to have very happy news to tell the boys, because they have all been wanting a baby sibling.  But I'm totally curious if it's possible that my youngest "knows" already.  Have you ever had a kid who just *knew* before they were given any information from you?

Yep!

With my last pregnancy, right before I tested positive, I was getting ready to go for my annual when my son asked "are you going to the doctor to check on the baby in your belly?" and I found out I was pregnant a few days later! He also predicted girl... and he was right!

This time around he didn't pick up on the pregnancy (not as intuitive with age maybe?), but as soon as I told him he insisted that the baby would be a boy, and he is! smile.gif

I certainly wouldn't discount it. Young children are very perceptive. To play devil's advocate, any chance he might have overheard you discuss it with someone though?

We weren't planning this pregnancy and not discussing it at all. A month before I found out I was pregnant, my 5 year old DS came out of his room to announce that I was having his baby sister and he knew it. My DH and I laughed about it later that night. After my sister had tried 9 years to have a baby, she asked me to ask my DS about it (he was about 3 at the time). He said that she wasn't going to have a baby, she was going to have two babies, a boy and a girl. Later after IV, she was pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl. I can't explain it, but somehow he knew. He still insists I'm going to have a girl. shrug.gif

Oh my gosh my daughter too!  The day I found out I was pregnant and hadn't told anyone (not even DH yet) she said, "Mom you have baby in your belly?"  I had to ask her to repeat what she said because I couldn't believe what she just said.  She said it again a couple of days ago.  Crazy, huh?

Wow, neat stories. :)

If he overheard anything, he'd still have had to have some incredible reasoning skills, because we have been careful about saying anything around the kids, or anything specific.  His brothers were clueless.

We had the u/s today, and all is well, so we told them, and of course the little guy is over the moon.  Still insisting it's a girl.  I'm totally curious to see if he's right. :D

YAY! It is totally there! My less than 2 y/o keeps coming over to my belly and hugging and kissing it saying "baby baby baby!" I am only 2 WEEKS pregnant and have not told her. She has already been doing this maybe a week..I think they know.

This really is weird and amazing to read your stories.  I wonder if any kinds of studies have been done.  I also wonder if our bodies are giving off some sort of smell/hormones that they remember smelling as a baby or something?  Is that a stretch?  What could it be?

Wow, this is really wild! My sister has two kids; I have to ask her if her oldest did anything like that when she was pregnant with the second one.

My dd started talking about her "baby brother" when she was two. I also started dreaming of him. But I was in no way ready to have another! Right before dd turned 4 I conceived unexpectedly. Dh and I didn't tell anyone and didn't discuss it in front of the kids, but a couple of days later dd brought it up and told me that I had a baby boy in my belly and would soon get big and fat. I was shocked! Sure enough, the ultrasound says boy.

I hope it's a smell and not just intuition because my 3yo keeps insisting vehemently that I have TWO in there. dizzy.gif

Our 16 month old pulls up my shirt and kisses and snuggles the belly, he's been doing it since before I 'popped.'  He's just started kissing pictures of babies too.  So cute!

This just happened to me too!  I just found out I was pregnant and over the past two weeks (before I knew) my 3 year old daughter has stopped on 3 different occasions and given me a funny look and said "do you have a baby in your belly?"  I knew it was a possibility but we have not said anything around her, so she would have no idea.  Truly amazing.

My DS was 2.5 when I got pregnant with DS2. The day I was going to test, but before I had, he woke up from a nap saying "do I have a baby brother?" It was pretty cool!
