I've seen this a lot lately. People making threads, and then just deleting the OP. No reasoning, no idea what it was about, just gone. Sometimes no comments, sometimes 2 or 3, and sometimes a ton of comments.

Is it okay to delete your own threads/ OP's now? I was under the impression that you had to ask a mod to delete it for you unless you were editing a comment that was inappropriate.

It's not necessarily "OK" but it's not something we can regulate easily.  The only way to prevent it is to remove editing privileges for everyone. 

When it happens it's often because the discussion turns very uncomfortable for the OP so s/he wants to make it all go away but can only remove their post(s).

If we see a serial deleter then we'll address that. But as a single incident, it's just something that happens sometimes.
