First Dr. visit at 2.5 years old - What to expect?

For a variety of reasons, my daughter has reached the age of 28 months without ever having seen any sort of doctor.  We have recently moved and will soon have medical insurance, so I will soon make an appointment for a checkup and to start her on certain vaccines.

I'm mostly looking for stories from anyone who has been here.  Anyone else want to admit to not taking their kid in for the first year or two?  Did you have any major issues when you finally took them in?  Did you start vaccines on the first visit, or did you talk about it and get them the next time?  Anything else you want to share would be awesome.

I would suggest finding a family practice doc, rather than a pediatrician. and I'd just say she's late for her 2 year well check, and that you've delayed vaccinations up to this point.  If you're open to starting them slowly, then you can say that, too.

You also could continue as you are, seeing alternative medicine people instead of docs. my kids have second cousins who have never been to a doctor and are completely unvaccinated.

Definitely post in the Find-Your-Tribe area for recommendations in your area.  What to expect depends largely on the individual physician, so it's critically important that you find somebody who is "vax friendly" and respects your choices and your situation.  Good luck!
