My DH the LC

This week, my husband overheard a coworker on the phone with her friend who was having troubles with her newborn baby. Turned out it was precisely the same problems we faced with our first son: jaundiced, lethargic, bad latch, losing excessive weight, no wet diapers. They got the same bad advice from the ped's "lactation consultant": baby must not prefer to nurse, better give bottles of formula or else. Baby puked the formula, just as ours did. For me, I had him go out to buy a pump so I could bottlefeed him breastmilk, and he came across nipple shields at Target and got them too. Turned out it was exactly what fixed it, got him to the breast and shed the jaundice, got plenty of milk. Of course weaning from the shield a couple weeks wasn't easy but it happened. So, he explained what we did, once they got past that a guy was giving the advice she listened, and it worked for her and baby is doing great and exclusively BF now! The mom's friend was amazed her boss from work gave better breastfeeding advice than the supposed LC. I'm so proud of him and happy for her.

This is how we'll become a more breastfeeding friendly society - person to person support and encouragement! Way to go OP's husband! (And OP for giving him that experience to pass on by breastfeeding through difficulties too!)
