egg scratch test

Thread Starter

DD has her allergist appointment at the end of the month.  Her allergist is good about testing her with anything I want including stuff that I bring in.  DD has an egg allergy, but I have a friend that has guinea fowl and she gathers a decent number of eggs from them, so I would like to see if DD can tolerate them.  My question is, do I take a raw or cooked egg in for a scratch test with the guinea egg?  I am *sure* they don't have guinea egg in their little kit of allergens :)

Thanks!

Raw is best.

I would absolutely do cooked. Eggs are one of the foods that have vastly different proteins when they're cooked. My daughter gets head to toe hives from raw egg contact, but at one point she was able to eat well-cooked hard boiled eggs with no problems, even though she is actually allergic to them.

Also, raw egg whites can trigger a release of histamine from your skin on contact, so you could very well end up with a positive result and not actually be allergic to eggs.
