afternoon routines?

Can anyone share their afternoon routine? I have a 5 yo DD and 2 yo DS and we haven't been able to really get a good afternoon routine going. It always feels like the afternoons drag on and on and like I just don't know what to do with them all afternoon. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks.

Lately (nice weather) I have been getting out in the afternoons after lunch. We go to the park or go on adventures between maybe 1-4pm...that way we can avoid the dullards of the afternoon, but come home on time to A: beat rush hour traffic if we are driving (I live near NYC currently and anytime after 4 is just a pain in the bum to get around..) and B: have enough time to prepare dinner and wind down.

During winter we just go outside period after bundling up (we don't do as many "adventures") and that helps.

Could you do a craft time? My DD1 LOVES crafts. It will occupy her for at least an hour and we don't have to do anything fancy. Simple things with construction paper, a little glue and sparkles are all it takes (at least for my DD) and household items like paper plates, string and toilet paper rolls help too. The website www.enchantedlearning.com has a lot of great ideas. I am NOT in anyway artistic or crafty but DD doesn't seem to care...not yet anyway.winky.gif
