sleep - Page 2

Carrie, I will have to think about that white noise machine. Apparently when I was a baby my mom would turn on the vacuum cleaner to get me to sleep...

Copper - DD often sleeps 3-4 hours at a time *during the day* but not usually at night. Then it's usually about every 2-3 hours that she wakes up. Though lately she hasn't been sleeping as long during the day as she did. She seems overall fussy too - I'm thinking she either has tummy issues or might be fighting a little cold as her nose has been snuffly. In fact today she has only agreed to sleep ON me or DH. Cute, but difficult to get anything done!

She also does this weird thing in the morning hours. She sort of writhes around and makes this loud noise, we call it growling. It's almost like she's clearing her throat really loud and long. She doesn't wake up though and then relaxes again for a few minutes. She does this cycle for hours on end, which makes my last few hours of sleep very broken. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. Anyone else experience something like this? It's so weird.

Ursus- When Charlie writhes, it means gas. But he wakes up and yells ;)

I'm tired. He only wants to be on me these days, in reaching distance of a boob. I'll sleep with him cuddled to my side his hand reached up to my boob, but we get very hot and I wake up in a puddle of sweat. But otherwise we don't get much sleep.

Finn's longest stretches are during the day.  Probably 3-4 hours.  Nighttime sleep is 2-3 hour chunks, and thankfully they are solid chunks.  We get a random 3-4 hour chunk here and there but that's it.

Right now, he and I go to bed around 10:30.  Generally he wakes up around 2, then again at 4, then at 7.  Give or take an hour here or there.  So far, I'm lucky in that after nursing, he goes right back to sleep.  It has its downside b/c he'll only do one bewb, so I get up, go to the living room, lights on, get him on, deal with the choking out, spitting up, etc, and then he's passed out within 45 min or so.  But it's just enough time that I'm UP, and don't feel like going right back to sleep.  But I force myself to, b/c I know I need those hours!!

He sleeps on me, too.  Screw that cosleeper.  I need my rest.

Two nights ago River slept for his longest stretch yet in 3 1/2 weeks... almost 4 hours!  When he woke me up, I had a plugged duct that is still giving me problems.  But for now, he usually sleeps 1 1/2- 3 hours at a time throughout the night. Usually after he nurses for about 30 min and sleeps in my arms for about 15 minutes, he can go back to sleep until the next time.  But lately at about 4am he is just up for the day... wide awake and alert and ready to be out of the bedroom. So I usually go in the living room to nurse him and hang out for an hour or two, and then pass him off to DH and try to go back to sleep for a little bit.

hmm we have been getting 5-6 hour sleep stretches last two nights, as that sounds great - the clogged duct that accompanies it is not so much fun to deal with. We had a what felt like a multiple clogging issue on the left breast (it is not the fav anyhow) - last night and took all night to resolve it and still hurts a lot today. I am seriously considering setting up an alarm clock to wake up to nurse in that long strech - is that insane?  as a disclaimer, she usually has 3.5 hr of block feeding before we go to bed so that may be the reason for the long stretch....not that i want to complain about sleep!

Becky -. I think it might partially be gas for us too after all. She stopped writhing and growling when I put her on her belly on top of me this morning. And she kept squirming a little bit and farting. I'm guessing the warmth and position sooth her little tummy.

You could set an alarm to pump, and just pump to relieve pressure.  I wouldn't do a full pump b/c it will signal your breasts to make more milk.

Guys, I got like NO sleep last night.  I actually handed Finn off to DH and I never do that!  I think all the sleep deprivation is catching up with me, really.  I was going fine thinking I could do it all by myself but that's just not the  case.  DH had him from 3-6.  I took him back at 6, fed him and thank GAWD he fell asleep in the swing til just before 8.  I slept on the couch but it was better than nothing for those 2 hours.
