possible short-term relocation to Calgary

Thread Starter

(I searched and can't find anything currently relevant to Calgary.)

DH will be in Calgary this fall for up to 12 weeks, so I'm researching how feasible it would be for the whole family to go.  We homeschool 3 girls (2, 7, 11) - vegetarian hippies.

- recommendations for corporate apartments or condo?  (what part of town would we want to look in?)

- is mass transit practical?

- we *MIGHT* drive.  We have an SUV - driving ourselves might be more economical than renting a big vehicle there?

- we will be looking for a "community" to hang out in ...

Those are my immediate questions - we are already in the process of selling our house with plans to move into an RV and travel.  This job opportunity has fallen into our laps unexpectedly, and it might be just what we need to start with!

thanks

Mass transit is just fine in Calgary. They have light rail trains and buses.

The most popular sections of the city are the outer suburbs in the Northwest (where the University is,) and the outer suburbs in the Southwest, this is because they are closer to the Canadian Rockies, offer gorgeous mountain views and are less commercialized and industrialized.

Try looking on Kijiji.ca for places to rent. Also join local freecycle-cafe groups.
