Questions about Modelling Beeswax... what to store it in, etc

Thread Starter

Just got our first Stockmar modelling beeswax and haven't taken it out of the box yet... a couple of questions so it doesn't get ruined on the first use:

1. What do you store it in once it's been used and is in a big clump?  A basket?  Airtight jar/bag?  Fabric bag?  Separate containers for each color?

2. Does it get lint stuck in it the way play dough does?  (Like from carpet)

3. Do the colors mix together if you use them together like play dough?  Or can you pull them apart when you're done?

Thanks!

Great question I would like to know this too

I'm a total beeswax novice but :

I store mine in a ziplock bag *shrug* maybe not the most "eco friendly" option but hey it works!

I find that stuff doesn't get stuck to it half as much which is nice, it's much different than playdoh

Can I also steal this and post my own beeswax question: besides molding it in our hands forever how can I warm it to make it more pliable?

We store ours in a cheapie hinged wooden box from hobby lobby that has been beeswax polished. Ours doesn't get linty or color smeared.

It can be warmed over a candle, car dash...just don't melt it! LOL I forgot a slab in the car change reservoir between the front seatsone day and there's still red smooshed in there. Tops of fridges are sometimes warm. Any warm spot, really. Window sill.

Mommariffic, you may be trying to warm too large of a piece. You need only warm 1/4 or so of the slab...maybe that'll keep the warm time a bit less than forever smile.gif

Totally figured that out today ; ) We started small(er) and it went well -- my kids love it. I went to the farmers market and we got a huge slab of beeswax to make laterns with during autumn and I couldn't be more pleased

We store it in, basically whatever. I have some in a cardboard box with a lid, some are in a little wooden box, at one point I think there was some in a plastic bag. I don't separate colors. I haven't ever made anything that I tried diligently to 'mix' the colors, so we have always been able to pull colors apart. I have found dust or lint on them on occasion, but mostly in the figurines that sat out in my children's rooms for a long period of time. I think I just washed them off, but I cannot recall.

I have to wonder if it is even possible to ruin modeling beeswax?

We always warm it in our hands. If you are the type who always has cold  hands, you can put it under your arm pit. ;)
