Hi Lauren, welcome to MDC!!
Â
There are a couple of possibilities. One, you saw evap lines... if the line is not colored or too faint to tell then consider it a negative. Two, you were pregnant, miscarried and still have enough lingering hCG in your system to test positive. This is not terribly likely as your levels would probably not be so high by the time of your period that they would take a while to drop. Three, you are pregnant and experienced bleeding with pregnancy around the time of your expected AF. Spotting or light bleeding is not uncommon around this time and is caused by hormonal fluctuations (not implantation). Some women that experience bleeding will go on to miscarry and others will go on to have perfectly healthy pregnancies. Four, you are pregnant and something else is causing the bleeding like a cyst.

Implantation spotting and cramping is really not that common. And implantation occurs between 6 and 12 DPO, 84% of the time between 8 and 10 DPO. So 5 DPO is really too early to be experiencing pregnancy symptoms. How did you confirm ovulation? Do you chart your basal body temp and cervical fluid? Or were you taking OPK's? If the latter, remember that you are likely to ovulate 24-36 hours AFTER a positive OPK and that is only if they are working for you (and they do not work for a lot of women).Â

I agree with Traci, go out and get a digi, but be sure to get one that only requires an hCG level of 25. This will eliminate the possibility of seeing evaps. Is the clinic open on Monday since it's Labor Day? You might end up waiting until Tuesday to get blood work. Keep us posted!!
