good resources for herbal health

I am looking for good resources (websites, books, ect.) to learn about herbal wellness for my family. Mainly, common herbs for various ailments (i.e. - flu, sinus and ear infections, migraines, depression, stomach virus, ect.). Nothing terribly advanced or fancy, just basic remedies and self care.

I would also really like to pick the brains of mothering.com and get experienced opinions and remedies from like-minded mommas!

So what are your best herbal/natural remedies for the following common ailments?

cold/flu

cough

seasonal allergies

sinus and bronchial infections

ear infections

depression

anxiety

stomach virus and digestive issues

pinkeye

premenstrual issues

migraine

feel free to add your own!

Well, first I would like to say that manuka honey has amazing antibacterial and antiviral properties, so I always give it to my family when they are getting sick, or when one of us is already sick or we have been around someone else who has been sick, and it seems to work very well.  We also use manuka honey on wounds, such as scratches, cuts, even fairly severe ones, basically it is our replacement for Neosporin.  Also, local honey can help with allergies(always get honey that has not been exposed to heat.  Raw honey.)  In nursing, we actually put honey dressings on certain patients wounds and they healed faster than the antibiotic ointment patients.

Anyway, we also stay away from toxic cleaners, we make most of our own cleaning products, and use all natural cleaning products which helps a lot with breathing problems and keeps us healthier.

We eat all organic food which can decrease the occurance of allergies because you are not exposed to pesticides and such which can cause allergic reactions, as well as an inflammatory response.  I also feel that the reason our family does not get sick often is because we eat lots of raw organic food including lots of fruits and veggies.  We use probiotics, DD gets Garden of Life Raw probiotics for Kids, I currently take Garden of Life prenatals which contain probiotics, and we also have started using keifer for more probiotics.

As far as other herbal remedies, I am not very experienced and havent really looked into them much.  A friend who is really in to herbal remedies told me that she takes echinacea and goldenseal during the winter months to either prevent illness or treat it, I am not sure which, but I havent looked into it because like I said we rarely get sick.

Here is a video I like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvzDHGLEUyw&feature=watch-now-button&wide=1   that is on the same page as what I have been talking about

Good idea for a thread, and I am interested in what others have to say!!

We use quite a bit of essential oils for just about everything under the sun...

During fall/winter we do Theives at night -- and if we are are going to be getting sick we apply up to 4x a day for both adults and babes.

For colds/coughs I do a garlicy lemonade which is basically some crushed garlic, lemon and boiled water...sometimes I do raw honey and a bit of garlic and DD will swallow it happily but she's a bit weird (ha)  Also we do honey and cinnamon sometimes...

I'll write more later : ) I am going to bed!

O I should have mentioned raw garlic for illness:) and I have heard it used for yeast infections but have never tried it.  I believe that probiotics help with yeast infections too.
