i feel like this is first time i have potty trained a kid. but this is my 3rd time. my son is starting to potty train he is 2.5 and he will ask to go pee pee on potty at times.and wants to run naked. but he cant do the run naked becuase we live with family and there are older children here. Plus he doenst poop on the potty and doesnt tell u when he has to poop on the potty. so do i keep him in diapers until he poops on potty. also if he pees in his undies when i was putting him in undies he doesnt always tell u. anyone?

People do it differently. We went straight to underwear. We had lots of accidents the first few days but ds figured it out pretty quickly & the accidents became less frequent. I personally feel doing diapers part-time leads to some confusion & can slow down the process but I think maybe I'm less mess-adverse than others.

Dd is in underwear, but we sometimes put a pull up underneath the undies if we have to go somewhere far. We use public transit and even with planning ahead for potty stops, we have the occasional accident. The pullups are kind of like a little extra insurance. She is only 16 months though and I expect that we will phase out use of the pullups, hopefully, before December when the new baby comes. I think ds was a little under 2 when we completely stopped using them during the day, and about 2.5 when we ditched the nighttime pullups. DD already wakes up dry so I don't think it will take her as long.

I don't think you can successfully potty train a kid if they are still full time in diapers though. At least it hasn't worked for either of my two.....they get lazy about it, *I* get lazy about it and the whole process just gets slowed waaaay down. At some point you just have to take the plunge and brace yourself for a few weeks of extra laundry!

I did manage it with my DD - but she was older (3). She was in either diapers or training pants (all cloth) until she was dry all the time. I am probably too mess-averse though ;)

I did naked on the bottom or in diapers (no undies) with dd until she was really almost every time going in the toilet.  She was doing that around 2yo, but ds will be 2 in a few weeks and he's never used the toilet and doesn't seem particularly interested in it.  He will sit on it, but not to pee or poop (he gets up to do that on the floor instead winky.gif).  Anyway, I guess you just have to feel it out and follow your kid's lead and your laundering preferences.

My DD just started to potty train this week (she's 24mo).  We do a mix of undies and pull-ups, which seems to work okay for her.  She knows if she has an accident in the pull-up and will take it off and throw it away herself.  We still haven't mastered poop yet, but I just deal with rinsing it out of her undies if need be.  She did learn to pull her undies/pull-up up and down on her own in 2-3 days, which makes it decently easy for her.  I prefer to keep in some sort of bottoms because we play outside a lot and she gets really dirty.

DS is 3 and still in the middle of potty training.  We ask him if he wants to wear underwear and he says no.  I really don't want to push him.

We transition to good quality training pants with built in PUL very early. There is a strong positive reinforcement with wearing underwear.
