Question regarding transfer of custody.

I am curious if any of you have had experience with transfering custody from one non-parental custodian to another non-parental custodian.  We are wanting to do this with my mil and ourselves.  Is this possible?  She has sole custody of our DGN and wants to transfer her to us. If anyone has experience doing this I would like to know how you went about it.  We are meeting with an attorney on Friday.  Thanks!

Are you doing it with the parents permission? How did the MIL get custody in the first place?  Was she given it through child protective services? Alot depends on how she got custody in the first place. My advice would be to consult a lawyer with your question.If the parents are terminated and the MIL has sole custody with no opposition from anyone than I don't see any problems but you might run into some if the childs custody was determined through the state and parents still have rights...

Hope it all works out for the child...It is hard..I have sole custody of my granddaugter so I have been there..Good luck...
