My son is circumcised and has a red, dry penis, esp. toward the tip on on the loose skin there. It definitely bothers him esp when really dry. He is a heavy wetter and we use cloth. Its been about two weeks. We've tried diaper cream, but I thought that was more drying. It seemed to improve when lotion is applied frequently and when he went without diaper most of a day or two. But through daycare & overnight seems to reoccur. I've stripped my diapers (have a HE washer and use Rockin Green soap). Stripped with 1 tsp. Dawn. Tried rising lots with wet towel added to washer but redness, dryness still occurring. Sometimes he's waking at night, I'm thinking from irritation after he pees? At 3 am this morning he said "wet diaper off".
Could this be yeast? Hesitant to apply a yeast cream to such a sensitive area?Or could it be irritation from wet diaper/build up on them?
He's been through so much with docs since he's been born that I don't want to take him unless absolutely necessary. Also he is taking prevacid but I haven't read about this as a particular side effect. Thanks everyone!
