Early Vaccinations

So here is the deal. I received a note from the school nurse telling me that my son received two vaccinations four days early and now he is required to receive them again. They are the MMR and the Varicella vaccine. He received these from a pediatric specialist as he was 3 months premature. Now he is thirteen today and I am not sure I want him to get them again. What are my options... suggestion and why?

I would not get them again. If you cannot file for a philo exemption, go check his titers for those diseases. Titers are acceptable substitutes for vaccines.

Agree and was going to suggest the same, if he doesn't have immunity, then it will be your choice to decide to continue with vaccines or seek exemptions.

What do you mean 4 days early? Im not clear why a metter of days would be an issue. Did you mean years? This doesn't seem right. For those 2 vaccines as long as they have had 2 doses before they start school, it doesn't matter when they get them.

Marnica: Some states require that the shot has to be given by a certain age, so if you are a couple of days off, they make you get them again. Totally stupid, but that's how it is.

That is absurd - not that I'm surprised.

OP: I'd look into the philosophical exemption.  When I went off to grad school in a state I'd never lived before, suddenly the MMR I'd received as a child was inadequate because I got it 3 days before my 1st birthday and the law said on or after the 1st birthday for that one.  A vax that had been accepted by 4 colleges plus all the schools in my whole K-12 education was suddenly deemed no good.

It was long before I had a child and made me question the whole vax thing.  Fortunately they had an exemption form handy for me to sign.  I'd never known about exemptions until that day.
