When to transition to regular height family bed... and stop worrying about rolling off??

What age do you stop worrying about rolling off the bed?  My dd is 3 1/2... at home we have a family bed with mattress/box springs on the floor without a bed frame, and she sleeps next to the wall.  We stayed at a friend's a few weeks ago though and dd rolled out the of the bed... even though I rolled up a blanket and put it under the sheet at the edge... and it was a high bed... with hardwood floor below.  Dd didn't get hurt, thank goodness.

I'd really like to stop hauling our bulky bed bumpers with us every time we travel.  And I'd like to put our bed frame back under our mattress.  What age do you do this without worry?  Any ideas for the transition?

I am 27 years old and I sleep on the floor because I still fall out of beds... some people are just really active sleepers :P My three year old fell out of a hotel bed this summer and she was totally fine. I think maybe that once they are old enough to not be badly injured by falling that it's ok to try a regular bed? I think three is old enough. I say put your bed back up on the frame, but let your daughter sleep by the wall. Maybe put some pillows on the floor next to the bed. If she starts falling out of bed take it back off the frame?
