Doll Suggestions?

So, I know it's early, but I am a planner!

DH and I want to get DS (who will be 16 mos in December) a doll for Christmas.  I tried searching the reviews, but it wasn't super helpful.

Can anyone suggest a good doll for a 16 mos old?  Any other good gift ideas?

Thanks!

DD got a Waldorf-style doll from Etsy for her first birthday and LOVES it.  They're not the cheapest dolls around by any means, but they're handmade and so lovely.

I made DD a Waldorf doll when she was about your dd's age. She likes it.  My mother bought her a doll from the store at about the same time. I think it's a "Little Mommy" brand - it has a plastic head and limbs but a soft cloth body.

DD likes that doll better.

I try not to take it personally. :)

I figure she can drag the store doll around, get it trashed, and I won't worry too much about it. I don't love the plastic head/limbs but the cloth body is very nice. I'd go for one like that if you want to choose a store brand.

I got my LO the Baby Abby doll from Pottery Barn Kids when she was about that age. All cloth, and so cute. I got her the diaper bag and accessories. I love that the bottle is also cloth. Nice and soft for a little one. It was a big hit. She sat there giving it a bottle, which cracked me up because she hated bottles. LOL! Now she likes to change the diaper.

i have given dd one of my childhood cabbage patch dolls, which she likes, and i have had her a waldorf doll made by an etsy seller.  but what she likes best of all is a very unsightly sock monkey that i made for her, and she got to watch me make.  i put lavender in it, as well as batting.

if you're even slightly crafty, the traditional sock monkey socks are pretty cheap but you can use funky socks too, and there are online tutorials.  it's super easy and i think the uglier the sock monkeys are the better.  i really can't believe how much dd likes and prefers it, though.

I got DS a doll for his birthday. It is supposed to be a potty training doll, so it is anatomically correct and comes with a little potty. But it is also SUPER cuddly and cute. He absolutely LOVES it and I find it sooo useful in teaching him how to do things and getting him to do stuff that I want him to do (try a new food, put on his shoes, etc.). He carries it around with him and has a bed and a stroller for it too. We had to buy him some clothes though, because he only comes with what's in the picture. We had a few incidents with the dipe coming off at the playground and the other kids getting a peek at his anatomically correct details! redface.gif Not my job to teach other people's kids about body parts- so off to the store to buy him some pants.

I ordered it from amazon, but the company is called potty training concepts. The doll is not cheap ($35) but I've already found it is worth every cent- and it's way cheaper and pretty similar to a waldorf-style doll. It's totally washable too which is awesome.

Here is the one I got:

Thank-you all for the suggestions!

I do love the Waldorff dolls, I think they are a bit expensive for my budget right now though.  I will keep one in mind for the future and will look into the other options for the time being!  I do like the idea of the potty concepts doll because it is all cloth...I'll just have to remember to get him pants! lol.

Check out north American bear company.
I got my dd one from a museum gift shop. Cute and washable!

Not just bears. Lots of people and animals.

We got DS a Rubens Barn doll when he was about that age. He's now 27 months and still loves to play with it. It's one of the Cosmos series, I think his name is Sky (DS just calls him "Baby"). It's soft and cuddly, can be thrown in the washing machine, and there are plenty of extra outfits you can buy if so inclined. The Cosmos series are all very much caucasian, but some of the other Rubens Barn dolls (such as the "Rubens Ark" series) have different skin tones and hair colors. The "Rubens Babies" are also really cute, though for some reason they're only visible on the Swedish version of the company website. Anyway, DS loves his "Baby" and likes to wear him around on his back in a doll sling and push him around in a mini umbrella stroller. We're thinking of springing for the winter accessories (scarf, hat, boots, etc) this year since it's getting chilly where we live and DS keeps insisting that Baby is cold. :)

Corelle dolls came highly recommended when I was asking for my 1yo :D She'll get it tomorrow, so I can't say how she likes it yet.
