any Riverview, FL mamas?

Hi :)

I'm currently living in Bradenton/Sarasota and will be moving to the Riverview area in the next few months to be closer to hubby's job.  We're looking at living in Rivercrest, off of Symms.

I have two daughters, one will be 4 in Nov, and the other is 2 months old, and they both are at home with me.  I was wondering if there are any other families in the area that get together for playdates or anything?

I'm also looking for a fabulous pediatrician... and recommendations?  I've got one in Sarasota that accepts my non-vaxed kids, and I could continue seeing him, but I don't love him.  I feel like I remember reading about a great, holistic pediatrician (or family practice dr?) that is in Tampa, but don't remember his name.

Thanks :)

Erin

This is the pediatrician I was thinking of.  Anyone have experience with him?

Dr. Berger is my daughter's pediatrician and we love him.  NO pressure at all about vaccinations and he's very helpful to recommend a natural alternative first, but isn't afraid to prescribe antibiotics etc when needed.

He doesn't take insurance though.  Office visits are about $180 a pop.  Fortunately I'm able to use my flex spend card to cover it.

Thanks so much for the reply!  Too bad about not taking insurance.  He would be good to get in with if we actually had a problem though - I've only ever needed to go to well-check-ups, which would be silly to pay that much for.

Can anyone else recommend a good one that takes insurance?

I'm in Brandon. I'm on the look out for a Family doc but I did find this a while back: http://www.cafemom.com/group/4388/forums/read/2738581/Anti_Vax_Friendly_Docs_List_Directory?next=61#replies

It lists Dr. Peter Kosoff (We Care Pediatrics 813-236-9310) in Riverview. I haven't seen him, but it's worth checking out!

I know there are several very AP Drs in the Brandon area, so you might want to look there since it will be very close to you and there are a lot more options then just looking in Riverview. My kids Ped. would be on the far side of Brandon for you, but while not really "holistic" is is very laid back and flexible. He hasn't batted and eye over my homebirth, selective vax, or not giving antibiotics when I think it's not necessary. He has his own smaller practice and a not-really-fancy office, but it works great for me. Oh, and I love that if I call his answering service after hours I get..him. Not a random Dr I haven't seen in two years- since we rarely go after the few well visits in the first two years that I do go to for a few of the vaxs that I do give.

Feel free to PM me. I know some of my fellow LLL leaders have several good recs for Peds in the area. Our monthly morning meeting is also very near Riverview, so you should come and meet some friends!

Thanks so much!  Great to hear about the Drs in Brandon.  I will definitely be in contact when I know exactly when/where we'll be moving up there.  Looking forward to checking out the LLL up there as well! :)

I visited the web site for the doc that I linked to, and he doesn't sound anti-vax friendly. greensad.gif It's http://www.wecarepediatricsfl.com/ I wonder why he was recommended? We seriously need a family doctor that won't harass me about vaccinations. I'm trying to get over a cold, and thankfully It hasn't progressed into needing an asthma inhaler. I'm so desperate to get settled with a family doc here that's a good balance between holistic and traditional care!!!

Carseatqueen, what's your peds name? I rather have one doc for all of us, but, I guess I'll take what I can get!

Seriously y'all, just go see Dr. Berger at Wholistic Pediatrics!  You have to pay out of pocket, because his office is small and they don't deal with insurance companies directly, but they give you an insurance reimbursement form if you don't mind waiting to be reimbursed.

Way too far and too expensive without insurance coverage. greensad.gif

Another one I heard of is:

Heather Thole-wee care pediatrics

813-236-9000

11948 Balm Riverview Rd, Riverview

I still wish I could fine one MD for all of us though!
