Welcome to the ND Group!

Hello welcome! This group is an extension of the Giant Colossal North Dakota thread. Right now this group is just starting out so we don't have all the ducks in a row yet with a description, photo, etc. It should be easier to chat with your ND friends here without having to wade all the way through the tribes threads and all the WY, SD and MT threads. This group will have a member list so it will also be easier to find your friends. Sounds good! Let's go ahead and have re-introductions from everyone who joins as it has been a while since the original giant colossal ND thread was started :D

I'm moving up from Arizona in a couple of weeks.  Yeah, that's right from the hottest to the coldest, call me crazy!  I was wondering if anyone knows of any midwives in the Mandaree area.  I had a way cool lady lined up down here but unfortunately can't bring her along.  I really don't want to have another hospital birth and need to find someone by March when I'm due.

I'm Katie and we just moved to Grand Forks in Aug.  We put our daughter Mackinsie who is 8 in public school but ended up pulling her out and now we are homeschooling her.  She was really bored since they were doing everything she did in 2nd grade in 3rd.  I think we are both getting the hang of homeschooling.  I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Im Amber and Im a mama of 6 kiddos. 4 girls and 2 boys.  I had my last babe at home. We are currently homeschooling as well this year and we love it!      I'm a doula, breastfeeding counselor and student midwife.  Im apprenticing under Paulette :)  Since we started homeschooling and my husband is super busy with work I've had to take a break though but will be back helping mama's next spring.  I started a breastfeeding support group in Minot and we meet the first Monday of every month from 3:30-5pm at Our Lady of Grace church.

Hi, I'm Erin, 31, from Bismarck.  I have a 9 month old boy, Jasper.  He's exclusively breastfed, which is kind of the reason for my post.  I've been introducing foods to him since he was about 5 months old.  I still can't get him to eat.  Some days he's interested, but other days he wants nothing to do with anything.  I've heard the saying "under one, just for fun" with regard to solids, but he doesn't even really think they're fun!  I'm not concerned that he's still nursing, not at all.  I'm most likely going to let him wean himself.  My concern is that he won't like a diversity of foods.  I also would like to look for a job, but since he's never taken a bottle and doesn't consistently eat, that's kind of out of the question right now.

Sorry it's not much of an introduction.

Let's see.  I am a single mom.  I had Jasper in a hospital in Denver, with an amazing midwife named Joy.  His birth was unmedicated and very easy, in my opinion.  I also had two amazing doulas there, who happen to be amazing friends of mine.  I really wouldn't have had such a great experience without them.

I love natural foods.   I don't really go out to eat.  I prefer whole, homemade foods that I make myself.   I cloth diaper (I do use disposables here and there, however.)  I did baby wear more when Jasper was smaller (he's always been a bigger baby though).  I still do, and I love it, but he's more curious and wants to check things out.  He still likes chilling with mama though, when he's in the mood.

I'm in school right now.  Working on prerequisites for nursing.  I already have a Bachelor's, but it's kind of worthless without a Master's.  I decided to go back for nursing because there's always going to be work in that field.  I'd like to explore my advanced practice options.

Anyway, that's where Jasper and I are at right now, more or less.   Any advice on the solids would be appreciated!

My name is Jennifer and I'm a mama to 7 homeschooled kids, 6 born at home and 4 of those freebirthed.  I've done a good bit of work as a doula and assisting at births, but haven't worked for around 2 yrs now.  I just moved to Idaho, but still keep very involved in the midwifery, etc world in ND (I'm even coming back to be with a friend at her birth in Dec) so thought I would introduce myself here.

Hello,

I am a SAHM who homeschools our DSs 10 and 8.  We are currently thinking of adding to our family and want a homebirth for the next birth.   I am looking for a midwife or doula in the Dickinson/Killdeer area.

Hi Tiffany!  Just saw this message.  Did anyone get a hold of you regarding a midwife?  If not, I have her contact info.

We just moved to ND, Near Elgin. I am a SAHM homeschooling my 13 and 10 year old. I also have an 18 month old and just found out I'm pregnant again. We are really excited because I was told 8 years ago I would never have another child. My 18 month old was induced but I did it without pain killers and I'm excited to have this one natural too, hopefully without being induced. But I have no one... I don't have family or friends near by... I'm due in Jan so my husbands work will be slower but I'm still nervous... I need someone to talk to be about Delivery in ND. I have heard the hospital in Elgin does not do deliveries... I don't know what to do or where to go... I wanted a home birth...BUT... Our rental is not where I would want a baby born.

I'm kind of really lonely here.

kadco77, do you have a FB acct? There's a group called Crunchy Families of North Dakota. It has more than 100 moms from around the state and is a great place to meet people and get info

Hello everyone, I know I dont live in ND, I live in SE MT, so hope you dont mind if I join :)   I have a 2.5yr old who was born in the hospital (not a good experience), and a 7 month old born at home, which was awesome!  I am a natural parenting/birthing/eating/living type of person (whatever you call that, crunchy?), and have experienced the feeling of isolation of being the only one with said beliefs in the town in which I live.  I would love to connect with others in my area, if others who think like me exist in my area lol.  If anyone is coming to Miles City, PM me, we can meet up, hang out  :)
