Really starting to miss... - Page 2

I eat subway and get it toasted so it cooks the cold cuts, but I've also eaten cold cuts not cooked. I also eat sushi, but avoid tuna (I think, DH has a list of fish that I can't eat in his head).

Lately a cold beer has been sounding so good. I'll have one in the 3rd trimester but abstaining for now - craving isn't that strong anyways.

I miss looong HOT baths. I love to get in a bath at just-below-scalding temp and stay until it gets cold. Alas, waaay too warm for babe.

And hopefully my MIA sex drive reappears at some point...

It's funny how each of us has our own particular things we avoid but also things we're ok with.  Curiouscanadian- I take long and steaming baths and have no fear.  When pregnant with DD, I sometimes took them for hours at a time (plenty of hot water in my apartment building back then, not so for my house!).

But, I was totally encouraged and assured by comments here about cheese so I went to the store to buy some blue cheese (dolce gorgonzola was my particular hankering) and I just couldn't do it.  I was mentally convinced but a seed of fear lingered.  Maybe I'll get over it or maybe I'll hold out and end up eating blue cheese 5x a day after the baby's born.  (You can't imagine how much blue cheese I ate after DD was born!)

Beer, the urge receeded and now I have a cold and don't want anything to make me sleepier, but the only thing preventing me at this point is that there isn't any around.  (DH very nicely stopped buying it when I got pregnant.)  For those of you who feel some fear about drinking at this point in pregnancy, what about non-alcoholic beer?  I've had that a few times at bbqs and restaurants and it hit the spot even if it was more like a light lager than a great IPA.

I just know how high my own body temperature gets, and I'm not comfortable exposing the babe to it. But you're right - we each seem to have different things we avoid!

Mmmmmmm. Guinness on draft sounds soooooo good Hildare! I think its okay, but I'm not brave enough to dive in head first just yet, i think I'll wait until the third trimester when I can't sleep.  I have occasionally been drinking a brand called Kaliber that is a non-alcoholic variety put out by the makers of Guiness.http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/209/5333   It's an okay substitute, but sometimes you just want a beer, and a warm fuzzy buzz. :) What I really want is wine, all kinds of wine, any kind of wine, chilled, room temp, bubbly- doesn't matter.

having energy!!!! I'm so tired all the time!!!!!! :( Really missing my early morning, mid morning, and afternoon cups of full-strength, sometimes extra shot of espresso coffee. Never realized how addicted I was until I had to cut back so drastically :( Plus I guess growing a whole new person is more tiring than I expected.

So, Hildare, I've been thinking about this.  What happened when you ordered that draft beer at a restaurant or bar while visibly pregnant?  Did the bartender or waiter freak out?

I've been in restaurants where diners at nearby tables shot me dagger-eyes when I was served a MOCKTAIL.  And had a (young) waitress ask me three times if I was sure I didn't want decaf?!!  (loudly, and in front of all of DH's coworkers!)  LOL.  But yeah, I'm curious to know what reactions you've gotten when ordering a real drink for yourself when pregnant.

I'm the same way about a hot bath. However, I can barely tolerate a hot shower myself right now so a steaming hot bath doesn't appeal to me. My BBT this pregnancy is a degree higher than it was with my last pregnancy. I'm so much more heat intolerant this time too. I can't shower with DH otherwise he ends up shivering. LOL

hehe... i was at a "cool" place.. i also kind of just look mean, i guess.  nobody dared say anything or even look at me dirty.  plus, dd is obviously bright enough and a handful, and was running around (biergarten/courtyard), so i imagine people were like.. yeah, i'd drink too.  and.. yes, i went to a bar, pregnant, with our toddler... (there were actually other kids there-- this particular bar sets out bowls of pretzels AND gummi bears.  the kids were all cranked up on gummis- it was actually dd's first candy experience, ever)  and i had only ONE beer.  plus, everybody and their cousin knows dh, which sounds nice but in reality is kind of annoying.  that was actually a pretty fun night for all of us.

wow, hildare, that place sounds like a lot of fun!

So I went out for dinner last night with DD, DH and my sister to a neigborhood bistro.  I decided I wanted some beer but not a whole one.  My sister agreed to split with me and we ordered it together (asked what was on tap and then agreed in front of the waiter).  He very clearly delivered the beer to my sister-- despite me saying that we were going to share a pint "for now".  She stared him down and put it in front of me.  She's worked as a server for years and is always telling me stories about servers refusing to serve alcohol to pregnant women and the fights she gets into with them (she even tried to get someone fired once over it.)

Funny I'm normally the more aggressive one...

The beer was delicious though!

i miss:

sushi! so so bad

champagne

cocktails before a nice dinner out

medium rare steak that's still a little bloody (sorry vegetarians)

coffee - lost my taste for it entirely about a week into pregnancy, but still miss it

seriously i am going to have champagne, steak, sushi and a cappuccino in the same meal right after i give birth! i eat soft cheeses unless they are unpasteurized - which honestly is pretty rare unless someone buys a fancy cheese from whole foods or something. i will probably have a glass of wine or a beer now and then later on... can't wait.

I miss beer, being able to run downstairs to my local coffee shop and grab a regular cup or two during my work day, having enough energy to follow through with sex and just feeling like my past energetic spunky self. :/ There *sigh* I feel better now. :) thanks for letting me vent!

Hildare and Parsley, good for you!

DH & I went to meet up with some people at our local brewery and I was dying! We love craft beer, brew our own beer, and generally enjoy talking about beer! But since we were with DH's boss, I felt self-conscious ordering my own--even though they serve their beers in small 8oz glasses. I did take a sip or two of every style DH tried but oooooh, I can't wait to have a full pint!

I miss self serve frozen yogurt. I have a glass of wine every now and again with DH but I never finish it. I'm not at all a drinker, not even socially. The only thing I'll drink is Almond Champagne so drinking dry, nasty wine doesn't appeal to me but I'll sip on a glass through the night.

I miss sleeping on my stomach too! Not only that, I miss being able to toss and turn without torquing my back muscles. Oww.

I miss seeing my pretty feet.

I miss brushing my teeth in the sink. My belly hits right at sink level and I can't bend over it. So I brush in the shower. Boo. I hate it. And yes, I shower twice because I brush twice daily. :(

I miss energy. I haven't seen her in about 4 months. My Peri told me today that I need 30 minutes of light exercise DAILY. She wants me to start off with swimming 4 days a week and treadmill in between. Swimming I can do, boring treadmill not so much.

I was not aware of a bleu cheese restriction. I eat bleu cheese dressing all the time. Cold cuts not so much but I do eat freshly carved turkey from Henry's market. Is that the same?

I sleep on my back too. I love sleeping in our recliner because I need the extra support to stand up. It's not helping our love life much but I start off in bed with DH and an hour or so later I head for the recliner. Then about an hour before he gets up, I'm restless and looking for a cool spot to lie down and I head back to bed. It's a crazy game I play, this pregnancy.

My nutritionist suggested I purchase maternity bras and panties and I'm so glad she did. They are so comfortable and supportive. The bras become a little restrictive after a couple of hours but the underoos really give me the back support I need. That's about all I have in terms of maternity. Oh and I have diabetic socks. They're not super tight like compression socks but they make my legs feel great.

I miss wearing a Tshirt at home withOUT a bra on, but now my boobs are so big they fold onto my stomach and give me the creeps!!  I miss my small boobs.

I miss my cute little tops that fit my small boobs so well. I used to be a 34 B and I just got measured yesterday, I'm now a 36 D! Only half way too.
