Anyone found their m/s (or lack thereof) to match up with their mom's? My mom said she wasn't sick at all when she was pregnant with me, except when she didn't exercise. I'm crossing my fingers that's genetic :D

I went to the butcher on wednesday and picked up two pounds of beef liver.

I have never in my life ate liver, in fact if I think about it - makes me queasy. That day at the butcher though I was practically salivating over the liver. I came home, soaked it in milk, breaded and fried it with tons of mushrooms & onions and ate a big piece before I started feeling sick (and full). It tasted exactly like oysters to me.

Seriously.

No idea, I would suspect my body was craving iron but usually my iron is so high that I can't even take pre-natels without getting awful migraines.

I also bought some of that Bragg's nutritional yeast and oh..yummy. I love that stuff so much already. I even took a teaspoon out of the jar and ate it.

This pregnancy so far is weird. I feel happy, good, calm and at peace...weird food cravings must be in store though if the beef liver and yeast are any indication.

Sounds like you need B vitamins. :) Yeast has a lot and so does liver. I craved yeast  and beer (brewer's yeast) like crazy with my last pregnancy. I, of course, didn't drink the beer but I craved it like no one's business. My midwife thought the B vitamins were what I needed.

I have some food aversions and have had a couple headaches lately. Other than that I feel okay. I'm just exhausted. I'm sure it's coming though...it always does.

Well, today I am officially 6 weeks and boy, is my body working right on time.  So far this has been the worst day, no m/s but definitely some nausea and sour stomach.. I eat but it kinda tastes bad.  I am hungry but not really wanting to eat.. ugh!  I thought I was gonna be lucky!!!  I guess now I am just hoping for no morning sickness!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but six weeks is when there's a big increase in HCG hormone being produced? And often corresponds with the beginning of morning sickness. I remember reading once a chart or something that showed where the worst weeks were for ms...like, at certain weeks it would get worse, and at some point, the HCG correlation with ms was gone, and so you could sort of 'count' on the ms being as bad as it was going to get and slowly subsiding? Does anyone remember that chart?

I seem to think it's something like ms hits at 6 weeks, noticeably worse at 8 weeks, and the WORST at 9??...and begins to drop off somewhere around 11 weeks, only it's such a slow transition back to 'normal' for most women that it's often not until the beginning of second trimester that ms can officially be called 'gone'. lol Sound right?

Anyway, I have no nausea at all...I'm guessing it's something like 4 weeks, 5 days today off of conception date, so I'm guessing it's headed my way soon enough. Yikes!

Babycatcher 12, I LOVE nutritional yeast.  My DH makes this really yummy "cheese" sauce with it that is great on pasta like a "mac and cheese" or as a nacho sauce.  It is so good, almost like a junk food, but it is still pretty good for you.  :)

pregnova - Yeah I keep hearing that if you are gonna get m/s, you get it between weeks 6 to 8, and so I have been kinda wondering what would happen when this day came.. and here it is and it sucks so far!  But.. NO m/s.. just weird stomach issues for now.  I am crossing my fingers!

forest - can I get the recipe for the cheese stuff?  I have always wanted to make something with nutritional yeast but never have (I am a former vegan).

This morning was not good at all.  I'm 7+3 today.  I should have made breakfast immediately when I woke up but I thought I could wait until after I showered.  Nope.  As I was making my eggs I started to get worse and got a cold sweat then I was boiling hot with a little dizziness and of course big time nausea.  Yikes.  I did not feel good at all.  But I forced myself to choke down a bit of my breaky and that did help a lot after it sat for a few minutes.  I've felt fine the rest of the day.  I find that eating a ton of protein really helps!  I didn't do that last time and had nausea off and on throughout the day.  This time I make sure to eat it for breakfast and I feel great until lunch which then I eat chicken usually and then I feel great until dinner, etc.  It's the whole sleeping thing that's the problem.  It's too long of a stretch but I ain't waking up in the middle of the night just to eat. LOL!  I need my beauty rest.

I felt awesome yesterday.  No nausea in the morning at all.  And I devoured my breakfast.  LOL!  I think I got up and drank a glass of milk immediately but that might have been Tuesday morning.  Can't remember.  I just know that this morning I kept thinking what did I do that I felt awesome yesterday morning?

Great advice on the protein. We eat TONS of it over here...which is really different from the last pregnancy, so I've got fingers crossed that it will keep ms at a less debilitating level ;-)

I hope it keeps working for you!

Protein like eggs, etc. hurts my tummy.  :(  Humus of a bagel is working for me now, though.

This is going to be way TMI, but you asked.

I had been ok until this AM.  I was getting my DD ready for school and I ran down to the basement to get socks out of the dryer.  I was on my way back up when it hit me and I started gagging. I just barely made back do the laundry tub before I puked.  I thought that I was done and I went upstairs and then had to do another mad dash to the bathroom.  HORRIBLE.

This pregnancy has been totally different so far, that has NEVER happened before.  I also have the weirdest food aversions things that I normally loved pregnant (mexican food!) I can't handle.

I got hit with the nausea stick today.  Blech!  The extreme exhaustion has set in too.  I was sleepy before, but now I have zero energy.  :(  I slept until 10 this morning, and by 11:30 I could barely keep my eyes open.  I took a nap at about 2, and now I'm ready for bed!  lol  Good thing I'm not working full time.

What has worked well for me is lemon and ginger tea.  Just get a chunk of fresh ginger, dice it up, press it with a knife, or you can blend it if you want.  Add hot water, and some lemon juice... and a bit of black pepper to aid digestion.  <3 yummy!

I also just keep a chunk of fresh ginger on me and chew little bits of it if I start to feel queasy.  It works almost instantly to eliminate the nausea.

If the fresh ginger is too spicy in the mouth for you, this co http://www.gingerpeople.com/ makes an *excellent* ginger candy: http://www.gingerpeople.com/gin-gin-candies.html  It works really well for nausea as well.

Cryswilkins, I hope you feel better soon! Take it easy!  No more socks in the basement.  ;)

Janellody,

1/4 cup nutritional yeast

1/4 cup whole wheat or whatever flour

1/4 cup olive or other oil (or earth balance)

2 cups veg broth

spices: garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, mustard seed (whatever tastes good!)

Mix it all in a sauce pan on medium heat.  And you have to keep stirring it pretty constantly until it just cheese-a-fies. use a wisk or a fork.

And then pour it over pasta, or dip chips in it, etc. :)

I've been wondering this same thing. You'd think that this being my 5th baby I would remember when it hits, but I'm thinking you're right. Right around 6 weeks or so is when it usually hits for me and peaks around the 8-9 weeks mark. It usually takes me a bit longer to feel better though as I don't feel "normal" until around 16 weeks or so and struggle with food aversions the entire pregnancy. I have been getting a little worried that I feel so good yet, but I'm not to 6 weeks yet...we'll see I guess.

Forestmushroom that sounds so yummy! Where do you get your nutritional yeast? I have yet to find a decent place to get it. But That sounds really tasty and when I'm early in my pregnancy junk food and lots of cheese sounds good. I mean seriously...I could eat chips and cheese or soft pretzels and cheese every stinking day. I'll have to try this.

Thanks for sharing!

I hear you on the chips,  I never eat chips but get this craving for the salt and vinegar kettle chips!  yummy.

I get the nutritional yeast from the bulk bins at our neighborhood market.  But not all nutritional yeasts are created equal.  I think like a whole foods or food co-op might have it.  And some folks order it online.  I would call around to the health food stores in your town.  :)

I'm close to eight weeks and the nausea is getting worse by the day. It feels better when I walk, so I walk a lot (and hydrate too). I've had difficulty swallowing my prenatals and I have an aversion to the iron-y taste they have, which is tough.

I have a feeling that I won't be vomiting this pregnancy (my mom said she vomited once through her 3 pregnancies) but I will continue to feel this crappy for a few more weeks at least. I'm also getting a lot of acid reflux, and even though that's not technically vomiting, I think it sucks as bad (stomach acid up the esophagus = so gross).

Our natural grocers has a "yeast flake" listed under their nutritional yeast heading. Is that the same thing that you use? They're even cheese flavored?

i've got to try that recipe too! i can't really have dairy because it makes me really congested and gives me ear aches! i'm a vegetarian and mostly eat vegan, but some times i just have to have cheese. i also try not to eat soy because i think dd had a sensitivity to it and i worry about the estrogen since i've had issues with hormone imbalance. a non-soy cheese substitute would be awesome, i'm totally getting some yeast next time i'm grocery shopping. sounds like it comes out as a melted cheddar cheese.

i also had to send this recipe to my vegan brother and cousin. :)

Yeah the flakes are the same as the powder.  It isn't really cheese flavored, but like something else all together.  It has the same cheese effect, though.  :)

Now I'm craving some popcorn with butter and nutritional yeast because of all the talk of it.... YUM.

I actually felt semi decent today- 8 weeks (I think, still not for certain) super exhausted but no puking and not a ton of nausea.  I think it helps that I ate a LOT of food today and kept on eating.  I think the key for me is forcing myself to eat and just keeping it going and not letting my stomach get empty.  I was able to eat a lot more protein than normal too, so that helped.

noochy popcorn is the best! with a bit of melted earth balance and a touch of cayenne...
