I've been told by a handful of people (my prenatal yoga teacher, friends with babies) that valerian root is a great and safe thing to take during pregnancy for insomnia. I've been having wretched insomnia pretty much every night. I've been living with it since I haven't had much to do these days. But now that work is starting again (after summer break -- I work w/special-needs preschool kids), I just can't get by on such little sleep. Especially considering the fact that I work in a severe Autism classroom... I need all the energy I can get!
So I went out and bought some Valerian root today and went online to see how much I should take, and everywhere online says NOT to take it during pregnancy! WTF?!?? It's too late in the evening to call my midwife, as the birth center is closed (I know, I know, I should have asked her earlier). So I'm confused and upset right now; I was really hoping to finally take something that might work!
So... have any of you ladies been given the thumbs-up re: valerian root by your doctor/midwife? If so, how much have you used, and how long before bed do you take it?
