first u/s today,picked up an issue

Hi,
I'm 9 weeks pg and had an u/s to make sure everything was going well because I have high b/p.

Come to find out, my placenta is completely covering my cervix(placenta previa)and they are hoping that it will move as my pregnancy progresses.

So, no sex,nothing in the vagina, till the sitution is resolved! I'm really thinking that it may not resolve at all or maybe just partially move and at that point I will have to have a section, boy, I'm petrified of that, I've never had one before....

I'll keep ya all up dated! Oh, lastly, I have to have an u/s every month until it moves(the placenta).

Sheesh, first time for everything I guess!!!

aw sweetie, i'm sorry! that is scary. at least it is early, and like you say, things could still resolve themselves as time progresses.

I'm sorry you got some disappointing news I think in most cases with placenta previa, the placenta does tend to shift up as the uterus grows.

Why do you have to have an u/s every week though? The position of the placenta doesn't really matter until you get closer to delivery right? U/S has been shown to alter the behavior of cells in the fetus - nobody knows the long-term effects that this may have. Can you talk to your dr. about maybe having an u/s every month or two instead of every week?

Also, I think that seeing it move incrementally every week would just drive you nuts!

Hi,
Nope-- I have to have a monthly u/s until its resolved.
I'm really sore too,just from them poking around, first,they tried to do a trasabdominal u/s,then had to do a vaginal one,so,needless to say, I'm quite sore, walking around like I just gave birth.

Everything feels so heavy and low down there, well I guess this diagnosis explains that one!

I hope it does move...anyone here ever have that???

I had partial previa with baby#1 that was spotted at my 18week u/s. Hadn't had an u/s before that, so I can't tell you if it was complete previa before that. Good news is though, that by 22 weeks (I had another u/s to check my fluid because I thought it was leaking), it had moved completely.

I would encourage you to do some reading, because you will find that the odds of your placenta moving up are very good. It's so early in the game right now, that that baby has lots of time to get him/herself where they need to be.

For now though, I know it's scary, and s to you.

I hope it moves - I am so relunctant to have a u/s and I am pretty sure they will order one at my first visit because of my age and how many I have had. Did they say if chances of that was greater after having lots of babies?

Actually, the only thing that was mentioned to me was the fact that I have had many babies! Could be the factor! I never thought to ask about age though...

I'm sorry to hear about that, but it sounds like the odds are pretty good. So, is it just no sex or no "O"? Gosh, I know I wouldn't handle that very well. Dh & I enjoy that part of our life very much, thus the reason baby #2 is on its way so unexpectedly. :LOL Anyway, I'm sure things will resolve themselves and if they don't, well, it will all work out. I agree with the consensus that this often shifts. Hopefully you will get good news at the next u/s.

On the O question, it's worth getting a clarification. We aren't having sex because we're waiting for confirmation that the pregnancy is okay. We went ahead and fooled around, and when I told my GP this she said that's okay just don't have an orgasm. Which of course I had had.

Giving up sex sucks, giving up orgasms is just barely tolerable. But anything for a healthy babe.

I also had this issue at my 17 wk u/s with Elijah..we'd only done one that early because they thought i'd grown too quickly and was having twins. I'm stunned at the amount of testing dr's order these days, honestly. I am older, so I may have to be a pain about testing things, but trust me, early on, having the placenta over the cervix is common, not weird, and it does move up! Mine certainly did by the time I had a 2nd level u/s at 22 weeks. (I refused the afp so I had to have that). I really believe in minimal invasion for the fetus..our bodies pretty much know what they are doing, yeah?

Ok...getting off my high horse..I'm glad i'm doing a homebirth so I don't have so many tests to do.
