Poor growth in a three year old

I'm hoping to get some feedback or advice from some of you mamas who may have experiences with growth issues in your children. My dd just had her 3 year check up and the dr voiced his concern that she only grew 1/4 of an inch in a year. This puts her in the 6% for height. She did gain 4 pounds. He mentioned that it is possible that the measurement from last year was inaccurate since it was done on the table. Nevertheless I am concerned. Especially since she can fit into alot of clothes from last year. There were a couple of dresses that seemed too short though. When standing next to her peers she is considerably shorter. I am 5'4 and my husband is 6'3 so I'm not convinced it's just genes. Her dr wants to have her back in three months to re-check. I am nervous about waiting that long if there is something more serious going on. He did run some tests for thyroid and iron and they came back normal. Should I wait the three months or bring her to a ped endocronologist now?

Define normal (not to me - I don't understand it all). I have a friend whose son tested low-normal for thyroid from about 12 months onward. She was concerned and no medical professionals would take her seriously. Her son's growth was significantly impacted. He is now 7 and the same size as his 5-yr-old brother. My almost-4-yr-old is as big as they are. (They have been tested by an endocrinologist, etc.)  She is now looking into the role of zinc, as discussed in Kelly Dorfman's What's Eating Your Child? http://whatseatingyourchild.com/

Does your child have problems with foods - allergies or intolerances? Even if she has a very good diet, maybe she is not metabolizing all that she can be from the food. You might look into the role of digestive enzymes and probiotics.

I don't know what the levels were, I am going to call on Monday to find out. She does not have any food intolerances to my knowledge. However I have always wondered about dairy. Her diet is not great and her main sources of protein are dairy and peanut butter. She had major constipation issues from 6 months until she was about 18 months or so. She does sometimes have rash type outbreaks on her arms and chest and upper back. Also, she complains about stomach aches quite frequently. Her dr has examined her and has not really said much about the stomach aches in the way of further investigation.

Celiacs can also cause poor growth.
