How much B12 to supplement with B6?

Hi ladies!  I have been battling a short LP since January when I went off BCPs.  I started off between 7 to 8 days, and now am around 10 to 11 days (depending if I count my day of spotting or not before AF).  Even though 10 days is usually long enough, I know it's still short, so I will want to extend it a least one more day.  I am supplmenting with extra B6, but want to add B12 next cycle.  How much B12 should I take?

I am taking a Prenatal with 8 mcg of B12 and 2.6 mg of B6, plus 100 mg of B6 in supplementation.

Ugh- wish I never went on BCPs!!!  Thanks in advance for the help!

Okay, so I've been researching the internet like crazy about B12.  Seems that it can cause cancer if you take too much of it... and no one seems to know what a safe amount is.  I'm too scared to add extra B12 now.  OH, and an update on my LP-  my spotting turned into a light flow yesterday, so LP is only 10 days. greensad.gif  This was the first month off Vitex and taking only my B6 and prenatal.... maybe I should go back on Vitex and also Red Raspberry Leaf?  I only went off those becase of the mixed info out there whether they are safe during pregnancy but if you stopped them after getting a BFP it could cause a miscarriage.  Or maybe I should stop taking any supplements and just make an appt. with my doctor to ask if I can take a progesterone test????  I'm SOO confused!  I would love some replies!!!

Traci - So sorry for all your troules. I'm not sure about the B6&B12 thing.  My mom used get the vitamin B shots for weight loss and when the dr. tested her levels were really high...he told it wasn't an issue.

I've never heard of stopping Vitex and RR leaves as a cause for miscarriage...must look into that.

It looks like you've only been trying for a few weeks.  So, I think I would hold off on the Doctor for a couple of months at least. Most doctors don't consider infertility until you've been trying for 6 months at least (some a year).

Thank you so much wissa for replying.  I have decided to hold off on the doctor until I can have a few more charts to show her if my short luteal phase continues.  I know I'm just getting impatient about this whole thing.  I've been ready for baby#2 for a while, but DH wasn't ready.  Now he says we can start trying, so I'm just anxious for it to happen.  And it just scares me that a short luteal phase could cause an early miscarriage.  But I haven't been on vitamin B6 very long, and I'm optimistic that it will slowly increase my luteal phase.  It has already increased from 7-8 days to 10 days, so I can only hope that it will continue to lengthen.

Sorry to read that you've had a long road TTC #2.  Sending lots of baby dust your way and hope you can conceive soon.

You'll generally urinate out any B12 that you don't use. I was deficient, and gave myself shots for some time to build up my stores. B12 injections are colored red for identification. That makes for some interesting urine. As my stores were replenished, my urine would get darker pink after the injections. If you're in doubt and worried about dosage, you can always ask for a serum level test. B6 is easy to test, as well.
