Moving Beyond the Page

Anyone have experience with this program?  It looks very intriguing to me - just up ds's alley for learning style, I think.  I love the literature-based tie-in.  If you have experience with it, is it easy to follow and as comprehensive as it looks?   Are there expansion activities suggested?  Is there much in additional cost if you buy the entire curriculum plus the math add-on?

If you mean Moving Beyond the Page, I can answer your questions (for our family, anyway).

We LOVE it.  I have 4 of the age level sets, and have enjoyed every one.  It's nice to either follow the entire rubric, or to get off on a tangent and delve into one aspect of the studies, as the kids' interests take us.

There is no additional outlay if you buy the whole shebang.  We've also used RightStart math for years, and my youngest two are still using it now.  However, around grade 4 we changed over to other math programs because a great deal of Right Start is done mentally, and there is no teaching how to write your process down.  I know, not super important now, but being able to tell others how you're getting your answers does matter, especially in standardized testing.

It is *very* easy to follow, and I think expansion activities are kind of what the whole curriculum is about!  :)  Good luck!

Yes, that is what I meant to type. :)  How great to hear you have had such great success with it!  It looks SO cool for ds.  The writing seems intensive, and fine motor is not his strength, but if he sees purpose he usually does better, and he needs to learn writing whether it's his favorite or not .  Plus, if he can be a little creative, then that's great too. :)  I think DS would start in the 7-9 age level.  How much time do you estimate your children spend per day on the formal MBTP and math lessons?

We have the AL abacus and I like what I see with RS Math, too.  I see what you're saying about upper level math.  What program did you switch to?

Thanks for your response!
