Welcome to the new group Military Family Life!

Please use this thread for most all general chat they way we have always used our old tread, it will keep the largest group subscribed and responding to things for now. As we go forward, i would love to hear everyones ideas on how best t ouse this new area for us.  I have started a thread to that effect, lets ask question and post ideas about the structure and stye of the MDC group itself over there and use that to build a great new home for us.

Also if you come across military folks in other threads around MDC, please offer up a link to our group and welcome them to join, many folks never knew we had one and these groups for a little while are going to be even harder to find.

anyone got sugestions to how to connect with other local military wives/moms when we dont really have a base or a frg, and the unit does not have events?

any events around here are on such a big level that you just get lost in them, and i cant be the only one wanting to connect a bit more. (im in the DC area)

Have you tried meetup.com ? If there aren't any groups that meet what you are looking for on there, perhaps you could start one?

I know in my area (Austin) meetup is pretty popular and there are tons of different groups on there that have regular meetups.

Has anyone had experience with having a baby while your spouse is deployed?  We really want to TTC #3 very soon, but there is a chance my husband will be deployed this upcoming summer/fall.  I dont want to not TTC and then he doesnt deploy.  Is it irresponsible to just start TTC now and see what happens?

though he did end up being home for the baby (or babies in my case) we did TTC before(R&R) durning and after a deployment, we desired that part of being military was learning not to put your life on hold. I'm a pretty strong do it yourself kind of gal, so i felt ok, each family has to decide what they can handle. i think it would have been way harder on him than me if i had managed to get preggo and he was shipped out

Very Lovely!!! Our Ball in on the 19th this year and I am sooo looking forward to getting all dressed up! I can't wait to post pics of us!

DF got good news that since he transferred to his new unit, and they are infantry (he was air support), he doesn't have to go to infantry training since his contract is over in one year. Yay! They also told him that reservists aren't going to be deploying anymore since they are decreasing the amount of troops. Both good news for us :)

And another baby on the way...

I'm due July 20th. Just found out this morning.

Peed on a stick, left it in the bathroom, told hubby to go look at it and laid on the bed, he came into the room smiling and goes "are you ready for this?"

I love that he finally got to be here for finding out this time!

I was wrong. Due July 11th. Praying for a 4th of July baby... if so I may change middle name (or add it) to Justus (a friend of mine who was killed last summer, who was born on 4th of July and was also a Marine)

Congrats MP! How far apart does that put your little ones? we have been pondering baby spacing ALOT. thinking we are up for #3, the twins are 10.5 months now. Of course with my track record, we never know, it would take years or heck I could already be!

Mae will be 21-22 months when this little one is born... when Mae was born her older sister just turned 5, and when DD1 was born, her older brother just turned 30 months...

I like that I have two close, some spacing and then two close.

I had my #2 on July 5th. I was TRYING to have him on July 4th, lol, but he wasn't having it!

Tried on my gown (ball is tomorrow) and thankfully it fits despite my first trimester bloat! Also, luckily, it will work as a maternity Dress if necessary in March for his other ball.

I'm excited and a little nervous. My first ball! Tomorrows going to be a very long day!

It will be my first ball too, and I will be 37 weeks this weekend! (I'll post pics too!)

I'm just really glad that whoever's job it is to plan the ball actually took it seriously. I've heard of some people having really sucky balls. Ours was so good I laughed and cried!

Well, I cried when they were talking about the place setting for those who could only be with us in spirit, not often I still cry when thinking about losing Justus last year but that definitely did it. He wouldn't have even been at OUR ball... but I cried.

But yeah, very glad I went. And surprisingly none of those infamous dresses that show way too much skin showed up... and none of those "im not sure if thats his girlfriend or a stripper"s showed up. Almost every guy there had a date that was very obviously his wife, fiance, girlfriend or female he was very close to. I mean, a few were wearing inappropriately short dresses but they were generally girls who wouldn't be old enough to understand the word "formal" (not sure if some of them had even graduated high school yet, but their Marines were very young as well. they made me feel old lol.)

Oh and speaking of feeling old... the youngest Marine there was born in 1993. That's a year younger than my baby sister who is ten years younger than me! I'm getting old!

On the plus side, the oldest Marine there joined the Corps before either my husband or I were born.

Can't wait to see pics! This is a new unit for DF so we don't know what it will be like. I was able to call the caterer ahead of time though and ordered myself a special plate for the dinner (vegetarian, gluten free), and that was really easy. Hopefully they will actually have it for me (unlike when you order a special plate for a flight). I know that DF really misses all of his friends at his old unit and he really wants to spend his last ball with them, next year, if we can work it out.
