Rubber Pacifiers...Please enlighten me

Thread Starter

I am just wondering what the deal is with natural rubber pacifiers and hopefully someone can enlighten me :).  We used the silicone ones with DS.  Is there something wrong with or bad about sucking on silicone?

I have a mild latex allergy and do not want this baby to develop one (or irritate my nipples from having the nuk in his mouth and then nursing).  I have read that the protein that most people are allergic to in rubber is eliminated in the manufacturing process so it doesn't cause an issue.  Anyone have any experience with latex allergies and using these pacifiers?  TIA!

We found that the rubber pacifiers (those "natural" ones) melted to themselves if they were forgotten in the car.  They also tended to attract some serious lint/pet hair.  We weren't fans.

I know (from asking a doctor who is also an expert in environmental health) that it's relatively safe to suck on silicone.  I don't know anything about the allergy issue.
