I'm not sure if I should put this in breastfeeding or here, but thought since it is in regards to breastfeeding after dental work, I might get more response here. Â Mods feel free to move if necessary.
Â
My 20 month old will be going in about 3 weeks to have four of her front upper teeth capped and/or possibly removed. I'm hoping like heck they can save the teeth, but they have visible decay and are causing her pain. Â She has FPIES luckily she's not had any major reactions for a long time, but we think her excessive vomiting was what cause the enamel on those teeth to be corroded. Â She has no other cavities at all and those were the teeth that had erupted when she had the majority of her reactions. Â We didn't realize at first what was going on re the FPIES our doc had never heard of it.Â
Â
I was planning on nursing right after when she wanted to but then, I just had a thought last night that she might not want to or be able to nurse after her dental work.  If your child has had dental work on front teeth and were still nursing, what was their reaction?  Were they able to nurse? Did they have problems latching? Â
Â
She's never taken pumped milk in a cup or any other way, but I was almost thinking I should try and pump a small stash just in case she's refusing to nurse? Â DH kind of looked at me like I had 2 heads when I suggested it. Â I've not pumped since she was littler because I don't respond especially well to the pump. Â I'd be willing to add fenugreek etc if I needed to to up my supply. Â
Â
She will be under GA and they say that she can have water soon after to rehydrate, but then suggest sweet clear fluids after. Â I was thinking um, wouldn't mommy milk be much more nutritious? Â I have to check what their stance is on breastmilk as a "clear fluid" I know some places say it is. Â
Â
I figured if her teeth are bugging her I could make it into icecream or pudding to keep her getting some nutrition. Â WWMotheringDo?
