What did you accomplish today? - Page 36

I need to get into this thread more.  Here's why.

Today I:

- repotted two plants

- ran a load of laundry, dried, folded and put up

- neatened hall closet

- did the "touch-up" shopping and also went and bought our paper products

- returned a too-large swimsuit...  and yes, I told the lady behind the counter that I was returning it because it was too large as well, because I am that pleased about it

- put up the groceries and paper products

- I plan to make dinner

However, I am feeling really awful about not doing anything all day.  I have some kind of grandiose ideas about what constitutes "getting stuff done", and maybe if I write out what I've actually finished, I'll stop feeling so blue about not doing anything all the time.

To get over your "grandiose ideas" roadblock, just read back through a few pages of this thread. Little stuff adds up into amazing lists! :-)

Pretty good Sunday here. Nice mix of relaxing and getting stuff done -

- Went to the farmers market.

- Stopped at the bank.

- Stopped at the grocery.

- Pureed spinach for the baby and froze half of it.

- Pureed poached chicken for the baby - it'll be his first meat product tomorrow.

- Steamed some beets (ran out of time to peel and puree them before the baby went to bed - husband will have to do that part tomorrow).

- Did dishes about a thousand times.

- Helped husband put away the laundry.

- Walked to the park to go on the swings.

- Packed up another few boxes. At this point all that's left is the kitchen stuff, toiletries, clothes and toys that we'll be using until we move. Though I'm sure I'll keep whittling it down and packing it as we go so we can just be done with it already.

- Mailed my niece's birthday card.

And now I'm not doing another thing that doesn't involve sitting for the rest of the night. Might sort through my recipe cards, but that's it.

I got all the old papers cleared off the desk and high chair (where they tend to get stacked by the person clearing the table each night).

I also got about 1/3 of the way through re-organizing the homeschooling shelves in the office.

Today I:

-Went to the fruit and veggie shop, butcher and supermarket, and managed to get our week's worth of groceries (including nappies, rubbish bags and a light bulb) for under $100. I'm pretty pleased about that, as frugal grocery shopping isn't really my strong point. I do buy the cheapest brands unless I have good reason not to, but I tend to get far too many gourmet, fancy ingredients. This time I was severe with myself. Anyone know what to do with pinto beans?

-Took the kids on a longish walk round the orchard to investigate the new lambs - three more born this morning!

-Visited with Mum, who came over for a few hours, and cleaned the kitchen while she read books to DD

-Went back into town, solo, to do a mystery shop (bought a rather nice pair of shoes which, alas, I have to return tomorrow)

-Soaked haricot beans

-Made a kind of impromptu chicken stock and prepped some veggies for tomorrow's soup

-Made a chicken casseroley thing for dinner

-Made cornbread

-Started making pita bread dough, but got bored/distracted/sick before I got to the kneading stage, so left it coagulating unpleasantly in a bowl

That, and dealt only moderately neglectfully with the kidlings while convalescing from a rich, fruity cough.

They're great in chili (such as my amazing - if I do say so myself - bacon and whiskey chili) or refried beans to have with Mexican food.

Today I brought home some boxes on the train, did some dishes, picked up toys and made dinner. Thinking about packing some more crap as dinner finishes cooking.

Did a few more things after dinner -

- Packed up four more boxes.

- Took all of the photos/art off the walls, except two very large paintings that will stay up until we're ready to put them in the truck.

- Took most of the remaining glassware out of the cupboard, to be packed up tomorrow when I bring home a few more boxes. I've left us each 2 plates, a bowl, a mug, 2 glasses and travel mugs. I left out a few serving pieces that currently hold fruit on the counter, as well as the covered cake plate we basically use as a breadbox.

- Made myself a snack.

I think I'm going to have my snack, internet a bit and maybe read. Hopefully be in bed asleep by 10:30.

I made a quick, creative lunch and actually got to enjoy eating it since my son was taking a nap.

I ran errands efficiently (cat litter and pajamas!) without getting distracted too much.

I learned a new back carry to do with a woven wrap.

I went for a run and stretched!

I cleaned the living room.

I'm starting to get the hang of parenting an infant :)

Today I:

-Waited around half the morning for one of our chickens to lay an egg, so we could make pancakes for breakfast (3-egg recipe). Dang chickens did not oblige. Eventually gave up and made a 2-egg-plus-teaspoon-of-Orgran-egg-replacer pancake brunch, which was nice. (And just as well, it's now 11PM and they still haven't laid any. Ingrates.)

-Took the kids to gymnastics and DD's piano lesson

-Hung out at Mum's house and stole clippings from Dad's garden - three buxus, five lavender, and two climbing roses

-Came home and did a solid, back-breaking 50-minute chunk of gardening. Rooting-hormoned and planted the cuttings, planted out two bigger lavender plants, cleaned the chicken coop, shifted a ton of weeds I'd left lying on the lawn, and did some general tidying. Have just realised how a) awful the garden looks, b) how BIG it is, and c) how little time I have before Grandma visits. I want to impress her. I won't. :p

-Made mince-stuffed pitas for dinner

-Worked a bit on a ruffly cushion cover I'm making

-Cleaned the kitchen a fair bit

-Made Anzac biscuits

So far

- made a batch of granola (honey, almond and cinnamon - yum!) to have with the fresh peaches from the market

- made a pan of Hello Dollies (sweet, gooey squares)

- cleaned up the kitchen

- missed the morning outdoor exercise session I planned (boo - too hot by the time I finished breakfast -  by 9 am, it already felt like it was in the 90'sF greensad.gif)

- debating whether to make banana bread (there's a bunch of overripe bananas that need to be dealt with) or get started on the dusting/vacuuming

laundry, cleaning, sorted thru shelter donations, cut, sorted and weeded out & recycled my expired coupons

I hope you decided in favour of banana bread. :)

Today I:

-did some weeding

-planted a whole lot of lupin seedlings, maybe 35?

-planted cosmos seeds in pots

-went for a walk with DD to fetch wood

-went for another walk with DD and DS to see the lambs

-finished the cushion cover, made three cushion inners and put my new cushions on the couch, where DS greeted them with great joy and mince-covered fingers. He's a sweetie. Started Cushion #4.

-made the first layer of my triple-layer panna cotta

-made a meal plan with DH for next week

We also watched a whole bunch of ER. DH is sick, poor thing.

Yes, I did! Unfortunately, it means I've spent my Saturday morning dusting and vacuuming. And I still have a few more overripe bananas to use up. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought them. We've been gorging on local, fresh fruit from the market like peaches and nectarines, so why did I think 2 bunches of bananas was a good idea?  .

Lupins and cosmos - that's a beautiful garden! Hope your DH recovers quickly.

Me -

Aside from the dusting and vacuuming, I'm going to sort through some craft supplies today. I realized that I haven't been doing many fun and creative activities lately, other than trying a few new recipes. I feel like I have the summer doldrums, so I think I'll plan and organize a few projects. If it wasn't so hot, first I'd finish a sweater for DD that just needs a little work on the sleeves. A lap full of yarn is not appealing right now (it feels like almost 100F right now), so I'll probably look for some sewing instead. Last year I picked up some burlap coffee sacks and I need to figure out what to do with them.

A big thunderstorm just rolled in, so I'm glad we got the outdoor stuff done already -

- Went to the grocery store for staples and meat product.

- Harvested nearly two quarts of cherry tomatoes (we only have four plants and they produce like mad! Love it!)

- Moved the pots to secure locations on the deck due to the storm.

- Put the grill under cover.

- Packed another six boxes (seriously, shouldn't we be done by now!?)

- Put ground beef to defrost for dinner.

Still need to bake a pan of brownies, sort through the pantry to make sure nothing expired moves with us, and make dinner. But I'm going to relax for a bit while the baby is napping.

No packing today! But I thought about it. The weather finally cooled down after last night's thunderstorm, so we were finally able to turn off the AC and get out enjoy the outdoors.

Got a few things done today -

- Stopped at the bank.

- Went to the farmer's market.

- Went for a walk at the lake.

- Made pureed spinach and butternut squash for the baby.

- Made minestrone soup for dinner.

- Did dishes and swept the floors about a thousand times.

- Have croissants in the oven for breakfast tomorrow.

Plus lots of play time and quality time with Little Man. And that is all. Thinking about going to bed soon.

That is so me, even if I've been busy. I still get OCD about it. : (

Ooh! Pick me! I know this one. :)

I married a man with a Mexican Mom, there's a lot you can do with them. :) My favorites are just pinto beans. Cook with salt and if you want, some bacon fat or salt pork. Serve with Mexican rice and tortillas. Another one is to cook them like that, then do refried beans with them. Or like she said, use them in chili. I grew up using kidney beans in chili, but hubby likes the pintos. :)

You can freeze what's left. That's what I do bc there's usually only 2 or so left.

SO today my main thing so far is the morning in the garden trimming the runners off the tomatoes. They're FINALLY starting to turn red here and there. :)

Beside that, normal cleaning and stuff. And I took a nap.

It's still only 1. I know my SIL is about to come over for a bit, then I have to talk to the girls about what they need for school this year, go through what I need to have on hand for school, and bla bla bla. :)

I'm doing a trial run of using the Daily Docket, which puts all of my day's accomplishments down on paper. :-)

Today, it was:

- Played Labyrinth, Jr. with DD

- 1 1/2 hour workout at the gym

- Registered DD for Spanish class

- Followed up and responded to a few phone calls with the organization I volunteer for

- Spent the afternoon at the pool

- Blanched, peeled, seeded, chopped, and froze a bajillion roma tomatoes

- Booked our flights for an upcoming trip to Chicago

- Made homemade pizza sauce with the remaining tomatoes and pizza for dinner

- Did one load of laundry

Monday. I did some stuff -

- Worked a full day at The Office (today I'm totally counting it as an accomplishment - Little Man was up every hour last night so I could barely keep my eyes open).

- Stopped at City Target for diapers, wipes and a few other things.

- Made dinner.

- Earmarked a bunch of sewing projects in my new book.

And I need to go to bed soon. I'm freaking tired.

Today I:

-Went to fabric store for supplies to make DD's butterfly dress for a party

-Posted three letters

-Prewashed fabric, ironed it; traced and cut out paper pattern, started cutting fabric

-Went on long walk around the orchard with a cranky baby

-Made pinto beans for dinner (first time, they were nice - held their shape better than haricot beans do)

-Worked on DD's dress - did a fair bit. Rickrack is evil.

-Found a birthday present on Etsy for my sister, if the seller ships to England

-Made tandoori mixture and popped the frozen chicken in it to marinate for tomorrow's dinner

-Planted out a couple of pansies I forgot about and left in the six-pack. They were blooming - I wonder if they like being pot-bound? Orchids do. Anyway they're in the garden now, where the chickens will probably eat them...

Not a lot today -

- Cleaned the stove

- Put together a few cardboard boxes.

- Packed most of one box.

- Helped husband tidy the kitchen.
