My 8 yo DD has mild to moderate SPD (as well as Executive Functioning Deficit). Her SPD mainly affects how her clothes/shoes feel to her and light and heat sensitivity. She is very sensitive around her mouth though - she will not wiggle her baby teeth. They stay loose until they are hanging by nothing and then just fall out.
From doing research, and hearing other experiences with palate expanders, I cannot help but to completely shudder at the thought of putting her through this treatment.
Her teeth are seriously overcrowded. As well, she has a crossbite. She is somewhat self-conscious about her teeth (says she doesn't like to smile with her mouth open), but I don't know if its enough to endure the pain and other discomforts related to the palate expander.
I just wondered if any other parent had experience with this treatment.
If we don't go forward with the expander, eventually she will need adult teeth removed and full braces, but maybe at age 11 or 12 she will be better able to cope?
Thanks for any input!
