Homebirth/Mainecare Question

Thread Starter

Our family is on Mainecare. I had a homebirth attended by a midwife 5 days ago. I would like to make sure my dd gets added to our insurance, but am not sure how to proceed? Do I need to wait until I have her social security number? I thought maybe someone here might have BTDT. Thanks in advance for any advice. :-)

Can your midwife or your caseworker help you?  I was in the same boat, but ended up transferring to the hospital in the end so the hospital took care of a lot.  I called my caseworker the day after he was born, and I think that I had to send in his birth certificate and his ss card once they came in, but it's kinda hazy now almost a year later.  Congrats on your little one :)

even though we had a hospital birth I still had to call the local office and let them know I'd had the baby, her name/birth date and they said they'd add her temporarily until the social security card came in then I had to mail a copy of her birth certificate and I think call with her SSN, but I ended up just taking it all in once we got them because our local office is known for "never receiving" things.
