In the next year or so, we may be looking to leave Chicago. Nothing set in stone yet, but we're just exploring our options. We can't afford to buy a house in the city, and my husband isn't satisfied with the job situation here. Wisconsin has been on our short list for years, and Kenosha seems attractive to us because it's still relatively close to his family, which reside in the Chicago suburbs.Â
Â
We've visited Kenosha over the years, and on the surface we like what we see - thriving downtown, beautiful waterfront, farmers markets - but I'd like to hear some more in depth info from people who live there.Â
Â
- What's the job situation like? My husband is in office administration. Are there opportunities there?Â
Â
- How's the housing market? Just browsing the rental and real estate options online, it looks like there are good options in our price range. We'd be looking for a single family home to rent for the first few years before we buy - are there any, or would more likely end up in an apartment complex?
Â
- How are the farmer's markets and family owned businesses? Are there any natural/organic grocery stores?
Â
- We'd like to homeschool our son once he gets older - is there an established non-religious homeschooling community?
Â
- We'd be a one car household - are there walkable neighborhoods (close to library, grocery, bank, etc.?)
Â
- What's the public transit like?
Â
And just in general, what are some of the things you like or dislike about the area? Any feedback appreciated!
