Going out for dinner tonight, during the 2WW, and of course it's with some of my good friends so they will notice and give me heck if I get a Coke.   Maybe I'll have to fake a bathroom break after I put in my drink order and secretly ask for a virgin drink instead.

But then I think, is it really that big of a deal?!?!   Most women aren't TTC freaks like me and don't even realize they're PG until 5 or 6 weeks and they've been drinking the whole time.

Does anyone have any information as to it's harmful to the possible pregnancy?

the "correct" answer is to avoid alcohol. that being said, i didn't know i was pregnant and got completely blasted twice before i found out. dd came out just fine. it's slightly safer while there is still a sac before the placenta develops, so if you don't implant till late in the 2weeks, baby will be fine. i'd be far more concerned about alcohol in weeks 3 and onward. take that however you want.

Yes, please!

Sorry, I agree that the correct answer is 'don't' but implantation doesn't even happen until 6-10 DPO so the embryo isn't even sharing any blood with you.  Ditto on the sac thing too.  My thought is that a glass of red wine or a beer relaxes you and increases blood flow.  How could that really hurt anything?  I think a glass of wine or beer tonight at dinner is totally acceptable.

Seems like everything I've read says a small glass of wine won't hurt anything. I have been having the occasional glass during the 2WW. I'm hoping it's ok. There's nothing quite like relaxing with a glass of wine over dinner...

I'm about to deliver my baby any day now, and I've had occasional glasses of low alcohol wine and beer during this pregnancy, with no ill effects on my child. While the medical establishment's official stance on it is there is no safe amount of alcohol, there have been numerous studies indicating that small, occasional amounts are not harmful, and can even be beneficial. I do think you should avoid hard alcohol during pregnancy, so you might want to skip the mixed drinks. But a glass of wine or beer should be just fine.

Oh, and if you don't want to imbibe but also don't want to put your friends on alert, you can always say you've been having headaches this week and don't want to trigger another. :-)

I craved beer when I was pregnant, and my midwife did everything short of taking me out for a drink!  She said the same thing; a little is fine.  I just didn't even think about the whole implantation timing, I was worried more about maybe a greater vulnerability with a newly developing baby....No, no medical evidence for that one, just my crazy thinking. ;-)

Oh, and kitchensqueen, that is a great out if I do ever want to avoid that situation!

DH was telling me his boss' wife said to have Guinness late in pregnancy! The minerals and increased blood flow were the argument she made for it.. I'm sure not saying get blasted and I can't even drink a whole Guinness normally but.. yup. I had sips of beer throughout my pregnancy and had most of a beer on Valentine's day. During the 2WW I don't really think it has an impact

With my DD I drank until I was 5 or 6 weeks pregnant, simply because I didn't realize I was yet! (We were not trying at that point... just not preventing)

I did drink during the 2WW last time I was pregnant (quite heavily one night). That pregnancy ended in m/c greensad.gif. A part of me still wonders if I just happened to be imbibing on the wrong day of development and I messed up the baby somehow. I know I will never know, but the experience has made me gun-shy.

I haven't had a drink now since I found out I was pregnant with the miscarried baby, (early March!) because I'd hoped to get pregnant again right away. Here we are in September and I'm still waiting... !

Oh I'm SO sorry, Beachlove!  :Hug  That's the sort of stuff I worry about.  But most likely, nothing you did caused it; there are those that drink nonstop and don't have any problems.   Then there are those that follow everything to a T and still miscarry.   Either way, I'm so sorry about your loss and I hope your day comes soon! goodvibes.gif

In general, I agree that a small drink during the 2ww wouldn't hurt anything. I hardly ever drink (just don't like to) so I wouldn't - why take any risks if I don't like it anyway? (I do drink my daily morning coffee though, just one small cup, which many people would consider a risk, because that I do like.) However, personally I think that if the reason for having the drink is social (so people won't ask questions) that is not a good enough reason. I would same the same with coffee or anything else.
