Does anyone homeschool some of their kids?

I have three children, all currently enrolled in public school.  My DS is in 4th grade and is not being served well at school.  He was tested as gifted, but the current school district has cut all funding for gifted education.  There is no differentiation in the classroom and he is horribly bored.  He's read over 1000 pages of recreational reading since school started a month ago in his "free time" at school.  He has asked me to homeschool him numerous times, and I'm truly considering it now.  My DD1 is in 2nd grade and loves school!  She's a social extrovert who thrives on being in class with other children.  She loves helping others and is very attuned to others needs.  I fear that homeschooling would not be a good choice for her.  DD2 is in Kindergarten and while she'd love to be homeschooled (more Mommy time, YAY!), she's made tremendous strides in self-confidence and stepping out of her comfort zone since her school year started.  I'd like to keep her in public kindy and possibly first grade, but maybe homeschool her later.

Anyway, does anyone else homeschool some, but not all, of their children?  I'm kind of conflicted in feeling like this is an all or nothing proposition.

Hi there!  I also have 3 kids and I hs only one of them.  Well technically I have two at home but my youngest is only 2.  Anyway, my oldest was not being well served in public school either and so we withdrew him.  He is 7. My middle child is in kindy, and he loves it.  I have to say it really puts a cramp in my day but it's working out for us right now.  I try to use the time that he's in school to work with my oldest one on one...as much as you can do that with a 2 year old painting the dog or filling the dishwasher with legos.

My oldest is 15 and loves school and all the social stimulation (and always has!).  My middle daughter just started kindergarten and we pulled her right out-- NOT the right fit for her.  We are embarking on homeschool this year, possibly with more to come.  My youngest is 3 and will do preschool 2 mornings a week.

My three girls are all so different.  "One size fits all" is not a useful education philosophy.  :-)  Follow your heart.  hug2.gif

I have four kids. My 12-year-old is in school full-time, my 14-year-old is in school part-time, my 17-year-old is doing distance learning and living on her own while furthering her music training, and my 8-year-old is homeschooling full-time. We also have issues with poorness of fit due to my kids being very advanced, and elementary school would not have worked well for that reason.

I'm only two weeks into it but it seems all my kids' needs are being very well served by the current arrangements which are quite different for each of them. However it is proving very challenging for me to juggle... I'm ready for a vacation already! Your situation may be much more sane. With four kids on four different schedules and me in charge of transportation for the middles, who start and finish school each day at different times, it's an organizational nightmare.

Oldest two at home, youngest in half day kindy.  I am happy with my decision, but do expect to hs her later on.

I started 6 years ago with middle at home - oldest & youngest in school.

Then youngest & middle at home - oldest in school.

Then all 3 at home.

Then youngest & middle at home - oldest in school (again).

Then youngest at home - middle & oldest in school/college.

It's all about whatever works best for the child at the time and what they choose to do.  I (not the kids) used to worry if things were "fair", but I got over that quick.  My youngest will probably choose high school as well in a few years.

In our homeschool group there are several families that do this for various reasons.  I think that it is generally accepted as a good thinng to do what ever works for you andyour kids.  Good luck and have fun if you decide to homeschool.
