potty training issues with my 6yo

I was trying to post this in potty training, but couldnt find where to post, so I thought I would put it here & see what kind of response I get...

I have a 6yo step son which was potty trained by his grandmother. She taught him to squat on the potty when going #2. How do I break him of this. He is in school now & some of the oyher kids are making fun of him for the way he goes, but he refuses to just sit on the tiolet...he says his grandma told him he would be nasty if he sits, so I thinkn he has developed a complex about sitting down on the seat...what do I do?

Actually the majority of ppl in the world do some form of a squat when they poop. It is healthier and makes better use of the muscles involved in the elimination process. So really us "sittters" are the ones doing it wrong. So I would do nothing about your step son's pooping habit.

As far as being teased at school how he does it- surely at his age he is old enough to go alone into a stall ot room where the toilet is and poop there. How do his friends know how he is pooping? Is it bothering your step-son? Most likely it is a few comments and I would just tell my stepson how different people have different ways of doing things. If it is excessive, on-going taunting then I would treat it more as a bully issue. Also I would check with the school for measures on how he can poo without observers. Good luck.

Thanks for that! It's good to know that it's okay for him. I guess the kids are seeing or not seeing his legs when he goes in the stall...but he came home one day and said kids were teasing him. His sister teases him too...( I get onto her for it though) The way their teachers tells it, is that they take "potty breaks" every few hours since they don't have a bathroom in the classroom. A few student go at a time, so there are always other little boys that are in the bathroom when he is...I guess that is how they are "seeing" him go...but thanks again!!
