What do you use for foreign language curriculum, specifically Spanish? I have a 4th and 5th grader and know a minuscule amount of Spanish myself.

Anna (grade 6) is using Rosetta Stone this year and loving it.  I think it would work for grades 4 & 5 if their reading skills were strong.

Oh I think it would easily work for 4th grade. My kids have used it from KG. They were advanced readers, but not necessarily that advanced. You always get the aural and pictorial presentations as well in the same lesson. And if you have a total non-reader you can choose to tailor the curriculum to that by choosing the presentation that omits the written/reading work.

Thank you. Rosetta stone is out of my price range at the moment but I have definitely heard a lot of positive things about it!

In that case, the BBC has some free resources online.  This link:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/mividaloca/  isn't intended for children, but we enjoyed it.  Play around on the site a bit, see what you find.  It isn't all episodes, if you go to the language home page you will find quick links to basic phrases, etc.

They also have a kids page which we also like:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primarylanguages/spanish/

I am using the French page for my third grader along with dvds & cds of songs, etc from the library.

My fourth grader is using "La Clase Divertida" this year, and I am pretty happy with it. It comes with a DVD to watch for the lesson, a work book and the stuff for some crafts and directions for some cooking activites, and a CD to listen to in the car. We have played with learning some Spanish in the past, so I am really happy to have the workbooks to reinforce reading and writing. The kit comes with enough stuff for 2 students, and you watch the DVD with them and learn along with the kids.
