I Need Advice On Prometrium and Clomid

Alright, I'll try to explain this as clearly as possible. I'm 27.We've been TTC for 17 months. I've never been regular (since I was 11 yr old). I had 3 cycles last year- they range from 47 days to 109 days long. I've had several ovarian cysts. U/S in July showed 2, 1 1/2" cysts on my right ovary and tons of tiny ones on my left ovary. I also started thyroid meds in July for hypothyroidism also.

I hadn't had a cycle in 3 months so I took prometrium and bleed starting July 10th. Went to the Doctor on July 18th and she said to take the prometrium again, but I ended up bleeding on my own from july 24th-30th and didn't take it. My Dr. have me clomid to start days 5-9 of my next cycle, but I haven't had one! It's Sep.16th and I haven't had a period since july 24th.

I can take prometrium but it's 80 bucks....expensive. I still have 4 days worth of it (from when my pharmacy messed up my prescription and gave me too many) and am wondering if I should just take it over the next 4 days. I took it for 10 days before. So would 4 days help at all?

I'm DEF not PG.... I chart and have taken 3 tests so... any advice? Do I just take the 4 days worth and hope it helps? I can't wait another two months doing nothing.

THANKS!

Hi Court, I'm sorry you're having these issues. I hope that the doctor figures out how to control your cysts as they seem to be wreaking havoc on your cycle!

I don't think that 4 days of prometrium will be enough, i'm sorry to say. I can't be sure but I think it should sort of follow the natural cycle a little and typically, the luteal phase is about 2 weeks, which is why they give the prometrium for a longer period of time. However, you should definitely ask your doctor. Maybe she would be able to give you samples to tide you over?

I hope that you get to take clomid. i had issues with my cycle after getting off of BCPs. My cycles ranged from 40-60 days. After taking clomid, they actually relatively normalized so that I had cycles of about 35 days. It was really amazing. I actually continued to use prometrium though because i had a relatively short luteal phase and the prometrium helped my cycle a bit (Also clomid really impacted my uterine lining...and not in a good way, which is one of the reasons I didn't have success with clomid). I hope that these meds will help you in the long run. good luck to you!

Thanks for the reply! I think I'm just gonna pay the 80 bucks and do a round of prometrium so I can get started on Clomid. I can't wait another month or two just doing nothing...silly body- get with the program!

Ugh, BTDT. I think I ended up taking Provera (similar to Prometrium) about 4 times in the past year. Maybe more. Anyway, probably too late to say anything, but I can say that, in my impatience, I did do 8 days of Provera instead of 10 a couple of times. It still worked fine. I've read about people only being given it for 3-4 days, so I was actually surprised when I was prescribed 10 days' worth. If you get fewer pills, would it be cheaper for you? Any chance generics would be cheaper, or Provera? Just some thoughts. Good luck!
